I kind of want to take a break from recording/tracking which parts are around and see how that feels. It can get super exhausting to try and keep track and I don’t know that it’s helpful at this time unless a specific part really wants to be acknowledged. Since moving, we’ve been really blurry and there have also been several parts around who I don’t know and obsessing about who they are isn’t helping me.
We generally do Daylio check-ins every 2-3 hours and this includes a “checking in with parts” section where we generally note who’s been present since the last check in. But trying to figure this out lately has felt unhelpful and stressful. Because of so much blurring, frequent switching, and frequent fronting in clusters, I wonder if it might just feel easier to focus on how we’re feeling and ignore the section about who’s around.
Most of the main fronters don’t really have a strong interest in being routinely identified as separate parts anyway. (Watch me say this and then have other parts disagree...but this is my current perception.) We’re all invested in our one life and living that life as functionally and peacefully as we can. We switch often between each other as the need arises and we’re not really focused on our individual identities as much as getting through the day and what’s in front of us.
We have different wants, needs, interests, feelings, beliefs, etc., but I think many of us are trying to focus less on what makes us separate and more on what brings us together: pursuing safety and stability and healing and recovery in the context of our shared life with our partner. We’re all parts of one individual in one body living one life.
