THE SET UP 👗👖👕👟 It’s exciting working around live music but you have to be focused, flexible and ready to problem solve. The closer you get to call time the busier things get. Managing a dressing room with a big group of clients with individual needs and expectations can be intense but it’s important that you give equal attention and don’t leave anyone out. 45 minutes sounds like enough time more than enough time to get dressed but with a group when you’re dressing 23 clients you have to use that time to be a stickler for detail and monitor everyone’s outfit for visual consistency. The crazy part is when even after a fitting appointment malfunctions have a tendency to show up on the day. It’s insane how temperamental zips and fastenings can be LOL. Looking back at my recent work with @acmgospelchoir for their performance at the British Insurance Awards, I want to share more of the work that was done behind the scenes. When you’re planning, sourcing and transporting outfits for a styling gig you MUST be organised. I find that grouping and labeling helps to keep things in order. The more space you have to set up, the better. Even if space is limited it helps to put clothing and accessories in order so the outfits are easy to distribute when it’s time to get dressed. A little bit of DIY...📍✂️ ✏️ 📐 Last nights event was running on a tight schedule so without a doubt I needed to make sure that the choir were dressed and ready for their call time. To complete the look for the ladies I decided on gingham neck scarves for the finishing touch. There are a different ways to make neck scarves but I needed a quick and simple solution. It’s been a while since I’ve needed to use my pattern cutting skills but they came in very handy and thanks to @thecraftypinup’s ‘Rockabilly Pinup’ bandana/headscarf tutorial, I got all the tips I needed. LET THE COUNT DOWN BEGIN! ⏱ We’ve got a few days now until this year’s British Insurance Awards and this afternoon I have a appointment with @markdelisser and @acmgospelchoir. This time the theme for the awards is ‘1950’s’, so I’ve our together 3 separate looks. 1. For the guys, 2. the ladies and 3. The band. . . Today’s session is to make sure that everyone’s outfit fits perfectly, to monitor consistency of their outfits together and to start labelling each individuals outfit so that they are ready to hand out on the day. ________________________ This time last year I was in the midst of preparing for my first big styling gig with Choral Director, @markdelisser and @acmgospelchoir for their performance at the annual British Insurance Awards (@insurance_post). . . Once again, next Wednesday I will have the pleasure of styling Mark and his choir for their performance at this years British Insurance Awards. For the last few weeks I’ve been researching, sourcing, contacting PR’s collecting samples and shopping around London to get everything I need for the choir’s retro themed outfits. . . There is no doubt that I have a strong passion for editorial styling, however, working around live music is magical...Before setting up Aesthetic Candy I had NEVER referred to work as magical, fun or exciting lol. This will be my fourth time working with the choir and I’m very excited for another opportunity to DO WHAT I LOVE.
