Toronto Fire Services crews on scene at today’s fire at 20 St Joseph Street. Pumper 313 arrived to a small flame showing from the eaves of this building. Crews determined that it was due to faulty wiring and cut the power, which allowed the fire to be extinguished. It did not extend to anywhere else in the building.

Page 3. ---- New Brunswick Village Threatened Before Blaze Controlled ---- Tracadie, N.B., Jan. 7 - (CP)— Flames that, for a time, threatened this New Brunswick village, were brought under control after destroying two hospitals - the Hotel Dieu and the Lazeratto, a federal government institution - and all their equipment.
Residents in the vicinity speedily removed patients from the two institutions. Eight leper patients from the Lazeratto. a generation-old leper hospital, were taken to the Tracadie academy, while 20 patients from the Hotel Dieu were removed to the Dominion government building.
The cloister of Hotel Dieu, used by the nuns, also was destroyed by the flames of unknown origin.
