A lot of players are having a hard time in multiplayer these days, because they get auto-matched with high ranking players with seemingly inhuman skills. I think part of the reason behind it is the great difference between the pace of the singleplayer campaign and the speed and precision needed in multiplayer. Although the Combat Shotgun is a go-to weapon for MP, higher level play also depends very much on precision weapons, and dodging and jumping is very important.
That’s why I made MELONPOP; It’s a training ground for MP-style gameplay! You get precision weapons with infinite ammo, and they kill all the demons pretty instantly. The demons, however, are fast, and do a lot more damage than usual. To survive you have to aim well while moving fast.
When you reach 200 points, you win. Each kill is initially worth 1 point, but if you score consecutive kills you get a score multiplier. It goes up to x4, but is reset to 0 if you stop killing for 3 seconds.
I’ve added a sound cue system to the multiplier. For each kill up to x3 the pitch of a little bell tune will increase - Kills done on the maximum x4 multiplier level produce a heavy strum from guitar. This way you can keep your eyes on the action and not have the HUD distract you.
The crystals drop from killed enemies, to make it easier for you to see who you’ve hit. They also give you 5 HP and 2 armor points.
Nearing the score limit, you will find a little surprise challenge waiting for you...
