He sighed softly and walked over. Her pen had rolled onto the floor, so he bent down, picked it up, and began quietly gathering her things. “You don’t need to help me,” Hazel mumbled through a yawn, sluggishly tucking another pen into her pencil case. “You look like you haven’t slept in a month, Haze. I’m helping,” Peter said firmly, though his tone was gentle. He stuffed her pencil case into her bag, zipped it up, and slung it over his shoulder along with his own. Her bag felt heavier than usual, and he had to wonder how long she’d been dragging herself around like this.
He extended his hand toward her. “C’mon,” he said softly. She hesitated for half a second before placing her hand in his. The moment she stood up, her balance gave out and she stumbled forward, falling straight into him. Peter caught her instinctively, one arm around her waist, the other bracing them both so they didn’t hit the floor. -- Or Hazel Stark cannot sleep and Peter Parker being the great boyfriend he is tries to help her.
Damn it! I went to bed at 9pm to be sure to get enough for this surprise job interview in the morning, and I’m STILL awake at 2am! Now I won’t have even half a night’s sleep!!!
I hate the fact I can NEVER sleep when I need it most. None of the tricks ever work for me. Any awareness of trying to sleep, or that there is an alarm set, or something the next day requires me to rested, or OMG do you know the health problems caused by lack of sleep….and BANG! I have just murdered any hope of drifting off.
