Bug of the day! Recent bumblebee sightings <3
Not sure what species these guys are! But here’s my guesses-
1. McKay’s Western bumblebee (not sure if this is a subspecies of the normal western bumblebee or its own thing, whoops). It has the distinct black and yellow bands all the way around the body, with no white or red on the abdomen.
2. ….Central bumblebee? Maybe? I agonized over this one for SO LONG ;w; but it has the black spot on the thorax and red-to black abdomen coloration?? It’s the only red-and-black tailed bumblebee I’ve been able to find that has those black markings on the side of the abdomen AND no yellow band on the tail, so I’m chalking that in for my final answer. The thing giving me trouble is that my location is super West AND North of this bee’s usual range, from what I can tell. It could also be a weirdly yellow and pale yellow headed bumblebee, or a forest bumblebee, or frigid bumblebee. Somebody said Hunt’s bumblebee but it doesn’t have a yellow tail band :(
I know it’s not the Confusing bumblebee (real bumblebee species) but it is a confusing bumblebee. I wish I got a photo of the head
This is a long shit but is anyone good at caddisfly ID to family level? I have Questions.
can anyone help me id this poor sweet baby? couldn’t find her on any lists
what are the chances someone could ID this bug based offa only this photo?
it's very small
the thing that looks like a proboscis is actually an antenna, the other one accidentally broke off while moving the body

Who's your identification employer?
Originally the pest control company I work for, and species I spot while out on jobs, but I get sent a lot of stuff online, or as chairman of the Western Australian Insect Studies Society, and i go on field trips and insect-hunting holidays in my own time
I was SO pleased today to run into some lovely lovely American giant millipedes. These guys are the absolute sweetest and adorable ❤️
Fun fact! the one in the back of the first photo is pooping!
These mites are hitching a ride on this carrion beetle. They have a symbiotic relationship- the Carrion beetle acts as transportation for the mites, bringing them to food sources they cannot reach on foot. And the mites eat the eggs and freshly hatched fly larvae that compete with the carrion beetle for food. The mites do not hurt the beetle, although, this one does seem very annoyed by them.
