hello mutuals and other buddies i have an important question my off-campus student housing has a terrible bug problem??? if anyone knows how to get rid of any of the following please let me know: - fruit flies - stinkbugs/shield bugs - ants
currently i have a vinegar/dish soap/plastic on top trap for fruit flies but they seem to just be sitting on top of it and not going in. a man came to the house to spray for ants but it didn't seem to do much. i'd say i catch and release 12-20 stinkbugs a week in my room and shared bathroom. how do i get rid of this because the school is very unwilling to help us and i love bugs but not crawling out from under my covers when i'm getting into bed

Have you thanked your local wire window screen manufacturer lately? If not, today’s observance of World Mosquito Day might be a good time to start! In the years before wire window screens became standard fixtures in American homes, we had to choose between sweltering indoors behind closed windows or opening our homes to a variety of disease-carrying insects. While advertisements for early screens made out of cheesecloth or wire began appearing in the 1820s, they didn’t become widely used until the 1860s, when more popular screens made out of durable, treated wire mesh began appearing in the marketplace, making our homes both safer and more comfortable. The New Jersey Wire Cloth Company’s 1925 catalog, A Matter of Health and Comfort is from the Published Collections department of the Hagley Library. You can view the entire catalog online in our Digital Archive.

Do you know of any way to get rid of ants? I just poured a bowl of cereal and there were ants in the cereal
Oh, yikes! :( I’m sorry, that sounds awful!
My only experience with ants has been carpenter ants in my family home, which my dad called in exterminators due to the dangers involved with the house structure & whatnot. I can’t do much other than google “get rid of ants” & link what I find, so I don’t have much advice for you, I’m afraid.
Besides googling for methods on getting rid of them, it’d be a good idea to put any food in airtight containers (including pet food), and locate where they’re coming from, so you can target your ant treatment. Also make sure you double check that any ant-killing/preventative methods are safe for any pets you have. I do know if you also notice them in any pet food bowls you have, you can raise the cage or food bowls off the floor, then put the legs of the furniture you raised it on in bowls of water, or put a liberal stripe of vaseline all around the legs to prevent the ants from getting up to the food. I’ve seen that one suggested on my hedgehog forum numerous times.
Do any followers have suggestions on dealing with ants?
Fresh Genovese Basil and Lemon Balm in the cloner. Gotta build up my outdoor companion protectors. Really helps with destructive insect control.
