Thinking a little bit about our synesthesia that we have in this body we share, particularly our projected ticker tape synesthesia - we literally see words projected in the air around us nonstop 24/7. And Jas's extra sense, seeing magic and soulscapes/auras.
We feel that these two disparate experiences are similar enough that they feel like cousins. It's enough that when we Willows go headhop into Jas's body in the innerworld as a ridealong, it feels overwhelming but also not that far off from our own. And when she fronts here, the words at least make her feel a little less cutoff from a sense she's always had.
If she REALLY focuses, she can see a LITTLE bit of auras in our body. Just like how we can, if we REALLY concentrate, see a few words here and there in Jas's body.
Anyone else plural with synesthesia have any thoughts about how those two interact?
Sguardi animi
What's an innerworld?
Innerworld or headspace is figuratively the place where alters go when they aren't fronting. The word innerworld speaks for itself: a world inside ourselves.
Does every system have an innerworld?
No, not every system has one. Some systems may just communicate directly, speaking to one another.
How does an innerworld look like?
Every innerworld is unique and can vary in size and complexity. Some systems may have a big house, some a city, some a whole world or even a universe. Every kind of innerworld is valid as there's no “right” way to have an innerworld.
Is having an innerworld always a good thing?
While it can be an amazing part of being plural, having an innerworld can sometimes cause trouble or even trauma, as it can mimic the outside world and all kinds of things can happen.
If you have any questions, you're welcome to leave a comment. Just be nice and respectful.

"Innerworlds are only visualization exercises and not real places!" WRONG! Innerworlds are sure representations, but they're much similar to dreams and constructions of trauma/repressed memories and what the system needs.
They are not always voluntary constructs, nor is it easy to "change" what happens within innerworld. Someone with a stronger imagination may find it easy visualize such large scale places, but they can appear randomly and in reference to alters and trauma.
They are not an exercise because not every system consciously makes it. They just happen to exist in order to house parts that don't front or need to step back from front.
They are often very real to the brain due to the nature of systems. If alters look a certain way in innerworld or have memories related to innerworld, then innerworlds are as real as that aspect of systems.
So don't assume everyone just "made it up", it's just another aspect of a lot of people's systemhood.

Wait - you didn’t know you were a system, but you had an innerworld? How? /genq (not trying to be accusatory just really confused how that happens :0)
Haha, no worries Anon!
Innerworlds are not a system thing. Singlets can have innerworlds; it’s just a way to visualize your thoughts and such.
My innerworld was developed via some dissociation and latching onto a comfort media at the time (which is now a trigger for us). We visualized our parts in that space, and had an entire hierarchy even! (Don’t worry — it’s gotten much better since learning about DID and doing some work with our parts). Back in high school, before realizing we had DID, we just figured that these people I daydreamed of were just My Emotions. Sierra was the Perfectionist, Wade was my Depressed Self, Numb was my Unfeeling Self, Sie was my Inner Child, and so on and so on and so on.
(Ironically, calling ourselves “parts” once we did research and learned we had DID and tried people based languages for so long… actually helped us move away from that mindset a lot! Sie isn’t my Inner Child Part, she’s the part of me who didn’t get to be a child, and that influences her personality. Make sense? Idk! Lol)
I don’t have any guides on hand, but innerworlds can be created or shifted with practice and effort. I’ve been working on shaping my innerworld to suit my needs in therapy, and it’s helped us a lot! :)
“Well, I guess we had a dinosaur phase as a kid, but I don’t think it was particularly - “
*entire main part of the innerworld is a jungle full of dinosaurs*
Our fronting room has been changing shape recently, presumably to accomodate all the new subsystems we've discovered over time. The weird thing is that the fronting room seems to be able to?? Emote?? When we comment on the changes?? Either that or one of our architects is just living in the walls and we can't tell
