Cadence didn't always have a facial difference. She acquired it in her fight with The New Squidbeak Splatoon when she got hit directly in the face by Marie's half charged splatterscope shot, which in terms of AU timeline events, was roughly five/six years ago.

The injury ended up taking her right eye and leaving her with muscle paralysis throughout the affected area of her face. She can't open her eyelid or move her eyebrow on that side.

In terms of how her disability affects her during her daily life; it frequently causes her headaches due to how much she has to compensate for the lack of depth perception; she can no longer sew toys for the Nursery children like she used to due to the lack of visual depth and the fact it now runs the risk of giving her a migraine; she has to shift and turn her head a lot to compensate for the vision loss, resulting in a very sore neck most days; she's had to adapt how she fights and trains her soldiers, and relies a lot on her hearing on her right hand side to try and anticipate incoming attacks.

She does wear an adhesive eyepatch when she's attending to her duties as Secondary Commander in the Domes, largely to avoid questions and because The Council requested she wear one when in their presence (specifically Frans Chara), but when she's off duty, she makes a point to keep it off for as long as possible. In the future, I want to build up her character development enough for her to dispose of it and her connection to Frans entirely, as most of her actions are dictated by him or the other Councillors, and would be symbolic of finally gaining her freedom in a sense.
