"What?"
Geralt asks, frowning, a furrow in his brow.
"I turn into a wolf every full moon." Jaskier repeats.
"How-"
"You were always away on a hunt. You'd just meet me back in the morning."
"...You were a werewolf this whole time?"
"..Yes. I- I'm sorry, Darling. I never wanted to lie."
"Why didn't you trust me with this? Did you think I would hurt you?"
"No! I thought I would hurt you. I'm not myself on full moons, Geralt. I can't even remember them. All I know is that the moon raises, i feel this ache in my bones, and the next thing I know, I'm waking up the next morning, nude, with a full stomach of what is HOPEFULLY nothing gross."
"...You've not transformed in towns, have you?"
"No! Of course not! I'm terrified of hurting someone, Geralt! That's the only reason I'm telling you now! I got the charts mixed up, I thought the moon was still a week away, but it isn't, and we're near a town, and I need you to keep me restrained."
A long pause settles between them.
"You want me to guard you?"
"Guard them. From me. Keep me trapped in a shack and- And lock it up tight. Chain me, hurt me, knock me out, whatever you must do. Keep me from being a danger. I never wanted to be a terrifying beast, Geralt."
Jaskier says, with those damned wet doe eyes of his. Geralt agrees. Because he doesn't know a world where he wouldn't.
Mere hours later, Jaskier is sat against a beam in an old rundown barn. He's tied up with rope, and chained on top of that. There are no windows in the barn, the door is fully barricaded and locked, and Geralt guards it.
"You really should guard it from outside" Jaskier had said. "I'm not leaving you to do this alone. You never should have had to." Geralt replied.
Thus, Geralt stands and watches as Jaskier pales and starts twitching. The moon is rising.
"It's coming- I'm going to be a beast."
Jaskier says with fear, before the transformation takes the air out of his lungs. Geralt watches in horror and awe as Jaskier's body changes, changes, changes....
In...
Into a songbird?
sitting on the ground is a fat little songbird. It easily hops over the ropes and chains, now much too lose to hold it.
Him.
Oh my gods.
Jaskier's not a werewolf.
He's a... were.... werebird...
And not even a scary one.
Jaskier starts pecking the barn floor and Geralt rubs a hand over his face in exhaustion. He prepared for the worst, and instead is treated to watching Jaskier struggle to bathe in a trough.
"Jaskier, it's too deep."
He tells the bird, as it fluffs up it's wings.
"Jaskier, you're going to-"
Jaskier tries to take a step into the birdbath, only to fall, dunking his whole fat little body into the depths of the trough. He flails about in the water, chirping panickedly. Geralt rushes to his aid, gently lifting him out of the water with gentle hands.
Perhaps guarding over Jaskier will still be a challenge after all.

Humans typically didnât go through life without gaining a few scars, even if they had a fairly easy life.
When heâd started following Geralt, Jaskier already had a handful- one on his foot from a disastrous interaction with a stick as a child, a slash on the outside of his forearm where heâd fended off an attacker with a broken bottle in a bar fight while he was in school, and a rather embarrassing one right below his right buttock where a husband had stabbed him with a spear as he was climbing out the window. Which was very much an over reaction; in his opinion.
Heâd only gained more, given the more dangerous positions he put himself in. However, if Jaskier was going to have a bite scar, he would have very much preferred it to have been a love bite.
Though perhaps that was still a possibility- things were finally becoming rather promising between him and Geralt in a physical way. Geralt was being rather sweet about it, honestly. Which both surprised him and didnât surprise him at the same time, so he was perfectly willing to be sweet back, the same way. In private when no one could see them.Â
The Witcher could use a little sweetness.Â
At any rate, heâd offered to trade story for story on scars, which had amused Geralt a great deal. Heâd agreed, mostly because it âwouldnât take longâ. Jaskier had a staggering and slightly depressing array to choose from, healing aside, and Geralt seemed to enjoy looking for Jaskierâs, despite the fact the bard would, and could point them out. He was right of course, but that wasnât the point.Â
That wasnât what they were doing at the moment. At the moment they were rather lazily necking while a truly hideous thunderstorm- there was hail- raged outside of the stout little cabin theyâd come across. Given the snug box bed, and excellent chimney and stove, it seemed it was a winter trapperâs cabin. Roach was even under shelter in a side shed that probably held wood in the colder season, and possibly bundled furs. It was empty now, well except for Roach.Â
They werenât playing the scar game, as Jaskier called it, or in any rush to fuck. They had time, and privacy and were mostly kissing for the pure enjoyment of the act itself. It wasnât anything theyâd gotten tired of yet. Not many people were interested in kissing Witchers, and many of Jaskierâs affairs were more hurried, moving directly from a flirt to a fuck with the only kissing being a prelude or a cooldown.Â
Not that heâd object to it being a prelude. Jaskier sighed happily as Geralt nosed along the muscle of his neck, leaving kisses on the skin. He stroked his fingers through the other manâs hair in long luxurious movements, rubbing the base of his neck and tipping his head to give him more room to kiss and nibble. Sharp teeth pulled a bit on his earlobe, making him shiver pleasantly, and traced up along the curve. Geralt made a rumbling noise, and continued his explorations getting a bit distracted as Jaskier captured his mouth again, for more sweet, hot kisses before nosing along his neck on the other side. It was a very masculine giggle, but he still giggled giddily at the idea of symmetrical kiss marks decorating his neck and collar, which seemed to be Geraltâs intent.Â
There was a pause and Geralt said, very quietly, just in his ear-
âWhy is there scarring on the backs on your ears?â
â... that is in the running for the least romantic thing youâve ever said to me. And that list is very long, Iâll have you know.â the bard said after a moment of getting his brain back to functioning when he had been very pleasantly blissing out.Â
The witcher pulled back a bit, bracing his arm next to Jaskierâs head, and bringing up the other hand to brush along the outer curve.Â
âThese are⊠Well healed. Identical. Almost surgical, what-â
âThatâs because they are.â Jaskier grabbed a handful of firmly muscled ass and squeezed. âCan we talk about this later?â
âNo, weâre talking about it now, because you donât want to.â
âOh, when I donât want to talk about things itâs an emergency, but when you donât, itâs quiet time.â Jaskier huffed, and bit Geralt on the shoulder on the principle he couldnât really hurt him. Since the witcher just gave a huff of a laugh and sat up further, he didnât really object. Moving to sit against the wall, he pulled Jaskier into his lap, so he could continue investigating his ears.Â
âYou like talking.âÂ
âWell I donât like talking about this.â he pouted.Â
âTwo.â Geralt mumbled into his hair.Â
âWhat?â
âTwo stories, one for each scar.â he elaborated. âAnd Iâll ⊠answer questions about it.âÂ
The bard paused. The last time theyâd played, heâd gotten less than a full sentence. Heâd pummeled Geralt with a pillow, but it hadnât made him give up more information. âYou really must want to know.âÂ
He gave a small rumble of assent. Jaskier just sighed, heavily, and leaned back against his firm chest, as one of the witcherâs hands stroked up and down his chest, petting the hair there.Â
âSo you know how I'm technically a Viscount?â
Geralt gave a hrm that he wasnât sure was a yes or a no, but was certainly a go on, which was a rare enough noise.Â
âThereâs a lot of elven blood in the nobility in my Kingdom.â He explained. âIâm sure youâve noticed a certain similarity of features in the courts. So sometimes, bloodlines being what they are, the combination gets to a certain⊠point. Charitably described as half-elves, but the math isnât precise, itâs just⊠visible. More than pretty eyes and smooth skin. Of course no one wants to admit that thereâs elf in their family tree, so something needs to be done. Once theyâre sure the baby will live, usually a week or so, a mage, healer or sometimes a barber surgeon comes and.â He inscribed a half circle in the air. âSmooths things over. Itâs an understood thing. My older half brother went to school for medicine. Says itâs no different than a few stitches to repair a harelip.â he snorted. âAnother lie I believed for a long time, Iâm afraid.âÂ
âHow?â
He made a disgusted noise.Â
âItâs not like there are records. My educated guess is when the humans took over the lands there were⊠concubines. Again, Iâm being charitable with that description.âÂ
Geralt's arms tightened around him in acknowledgement.Â
âSome kids look more human, get taken into the main family, only male heir or something, it all gets muddled, and there you have it.â He flourished with one hand.Â
âYour parents. Cut the tips of the ears off their children to make them look human?âÂ
âAh, no, my older siblings escaped that fate, since they were the product of a different wife. With his heir and spare in place, my fair father got himself a second bride after the first caught ill one winter, noble and sweet and his own choosing rather than set up by his father. To be fair, they do seem to love each other; which is more than most nobles can hope for, enough that they kept having children even after they found out what it would result in.â he stared into the distance and wrinkled his nose. âThe whole family is there to witness, to bind in the secret to them all. Being an infant I donât remember it happening to me, of course, but I did have to watch it happen to my younger sisters.â
âHow many siblings do you have?â Geralt asked, suddenly curious.
âTwo older half brothers, three younger sisters. Iâm the pretty one of the boys.â he fluttered his lashes and grinned. âHonestly, Iâm glad for them. If it weren't for Edmund and Phineas, I never would have been able to study the arts. How many brothers do you have?â he asked, not expecting an answer.
âLess than I used to.â  Â
There was a long pause, and they both listened to the sounds of the storm outside, but didnât move from where they were still cuddled against each other.Â
There was no surprise that Jaskier was the one to break the silence.
âThis is not how I anticipated telling you.â he admitted.
âDid you?âÂ
âWhat?â
âMean to tell me.âÂ
âYes. But Iâd decided to wait until you noticed. Fresh air, exercise and yes, some moisturizer has kept me looking much younger than a man in his forties should. It was getting ridiculous, but at that point, I wasnât sure how to bring it up.âÂ
â... I knew.â
âWhat?âÂ
âFigured it out after a few years. I thought you didnât. Didnât want to bring it up. Thought it might be implying you were a bastard or something.âÂ
There was another pause, much briefer, and Jaskier burst out laughing. Clambering around he turned to loop his arms around Geraltâs neck.Â
âLike youâve ever shied from calling me a bastard before.âÂ
There was a huff that might have been laughter.Â
âOnce.âÂ
Which only made Jaskier laugh harder. Finally he rested his head on the other manâs shoulder, and sighed.Â
âWell, thatâs something out of the way then.â Pulling back he looked into Geraltâs eyes. âMore kissing?âÂ
âSure. Weâve got time.â He pulled him close.Â
âDonât think Iâve forgotten about your promise either. Iâm going to be picking carefully.â

i'm rewatching the witcher and in episode two, when geralt and jaskier are captured by elves, one of the elves speaks in elder. jaskier says his elder is a bit rusty and that he only got part of that. the elf speaks in the common tongue, and then jaskier quips back in what seems to be perfect elder.
elder speech (according to the witcher wiki) is used by elves, mages, and scholars; while sung versions of it are used by dryads, sirens, and nereids.
which only further supports the inhuman headcanons for jaskier.
