These are the biggest misconceptions about inherited debt, according to experts
If your loved one left behind debt, make sure you know how it should be handled before making payments. Hispanolistic/Getty Images With inflation sitting at 4.2% currently and prices on many goods and services rising, many Americans have been forced to turn to credit cards and other forms of borrowing lately to get by. Case in point: The total U.S. consumer debt climbed to $18.23 trillion inâŚ
Can creditors garnish money from an inherited IRA?
Retirement accounts often carry important legal protections, but inherited IRAs follow a unique set of rules. Seksan Mongkhonkhamsao/Getty Images Few assets are protected as fiercely as a retirement account. Federal law walls off your own IRA and 401(k) from most creditors, and if you file for bankruptcy, that shield can stretch to over $1.7 million for the IRA portion alone. That meansâŚ

Living Inside Inherited Karma
What We Inherit â And What We Choose Next
Thereâs a difference between carrying someone elseâs karma; and living inside inherited karma.
Most of what we experience in life didnât begin with us. It began in choices made by others, long before we were aware enough to consent or resist: a reminder of how generational patterns shape our lives.
There is food for thought here. We donât carry someone elseâs karma. We simply live with the consequences of their past actions. And those consequences shape who we become, how we live, and the choices we make â unless we choose differently. Over time, all of this affects our emotional wellbeing and our personal growth.
After the loss of my parents and my twin, this perspective has shaped my life â it's a journey defined by trauma, loss, grief, healing, resilience, and personal growth. I believe most of us, in one way or another, end up living our lives this way.
Karma isnât something that arrives later as a reward or punishment. Itâs already here, moving through what weâre born into, the generational patterns we adapt to, and what we normalise over time â and the quiet mechanics of cause and effect in everyday life.
The experiences we live shape how we respond to the world. Those responses shape our choices. Those choices shape what comes next. This is the heart of conscious living and self-awareness.
We inherit karma. Not as blame or as a debt. But as a cause and effect continuing through the generations â a lens explored in generational healing. Awareness changes what happens next, allowing space for breaking cycles and deeper inner work.
Karmic work means working through what we didnât choose with presence and with consciousness so that it doesnât keep moving forward unchanged. Karma needs to become an act of healing awareness and living with intention.
This isnât an excuse to keep living unconsciously inside inherited karma â itâs an invitation to meet it with awareness, so it doesnât keep moving forward unchanged. So we can change.
