Finrod and Fingon feed off each other’s chaotic energy. Leave them in a room and next thing you know they’ve accidentally exploded their way out and are heading to jump off a cliff just to see what it’s like.
There’s a reason they were kept apart in Beleriand. Maedhros wasn’t there to watch over them and keep them alive. Fingolfin has Experience of the Chaos and doesn’t trust anyone else to do the job.
It was honestly somewhat of a relief when Finrod built a secret city and refused to give the exact location, though Fingolfin kept a close eye on his son in case he decided to try and find it. Valar knew Fingon had no sense of self preservation… and an uncanny luck that led to more chaos than anyone could handle.
Finarfin can’t help but laugh when Eärwen notices his missing button, luckily she’s smiling too

Okay I've mentioned before that I greatly prefer the Morgoth's Ring version of Fingolfin and Finarfin's mother-names (Ingoldo as Fingolfin and Ingalaurë as Finarfin), but I don't hate the Shibboleth's versions. So here are my new headcanons of their names, combining the two:
Ñolofinwë "Arakáno" Ingoldo (Fingolfin): His mother-name is Ingoldo. He began to take on more princely/kingly duties (diplomacy, politics, etc.) at a very young age, and was very good at it, so he gained the epessë "Arakáno". The Ñoldor tend to call him Arakáno, while his mother's side and the Vanyar tend to call him Ingoldo, although to all he is generally known by his father-name more.
Arafinwë "Ingoldo" Ingalaurë (Finarfin): His mother-name is Ingalaurë, but because he and Ñolo were very close throughout their childhood and young adult years, the Eldar began to refer to them both, together, as "Ingoldo" (kind of like an Ambarussa situation), so it became an epessë of Ara.
Bonus: Eärwen with her motherly foresight named her eldest son (Finrod) Ingoldo as well, which was confusing at first cuz now there were three Ingoldos, but considering how beloved and well-known Finrod became in later years, the name ended up making sense for him, potentially even more so than Ñolo or Ara lol
