Tawggg tell me one of your current favourite brainchild aus and 1 of the subdivisionsssss
I'm currently reading the first Red Dwarf novel, and rotating the "what if Rimmer skipped the OCD moment and made it to his evening stasis booth session, and survived the blast?" scenario in my head.
Obviously that could go a lot of different ways, post-stasis. I personally think Rimmer gets himself killed trying to "improve" the ship, and gets brought back as a hologram anyway. But I think you'd get at least 6 months of the rollercoaster before it crashes.
But it's possible that, with the Space Corps long-extinct with the rest of humanity, Lister is able to coax Rimmer into indulging and enjoying life. Like, I think a lot of his clinging to rules as a hologram is him trying to exert control over situations because he's essentially powerless without a physical form + the overarching structure of JMC. So if he does still have his body, maybe he'd be more amenable to compromise (and less willing to adhere to the rules in situations that would put his body at risk).
But like. He's also a quite neurotic person who has spent his whole life (ineffectually) working towards a goal that no longer exists. So maybe he crashes out even harder than Lister did, and Lister has to step into the role of keeping the only other living human alive + sane.
"C'mon man. You're the highest-ranking human alive. That's gotta mean something, right?"
((Okay that was 2 subdivisions. But I keep thinking up new variations with each rotation.))
