@infidelibus asked: "I'm sorry that... everything happened like that. Shit happens, life goes on, Meg." (Legion!Steve uwu)
The ginger was silent as she stared at the brunet before her, blue eyes glazed over with dark bags under her eyes. She simply stood there in silence as her mind tried to make sense of it all. What little emotion she had inside her fought for control, desperate to swallow her whole as it dragged her down into the darker parts of herself.
She’d been desperate to ignore him for so long. More and more, the ginger had done everything she could to avoid speaking to him or even looking at him. It was stupid but even now Meg couldn’t think of letting go of Steve. Her shattered heart clung to him desperately as it waited for him to change his mind - for him to come back to her. The athlete was fully aware that it’d simply never happen though. He’d already made his choice.
Every single word she’d wished he would say was filling her to the brim again.
I love you, I wish I could change what I’d done. She needed something more, some confirmation that there was still room for her in his heart. Even if Steve said it though, Meg wasn’t sure if she’d ever believe those words. Locked away inside her was everything that she wanted to say yet those words died in her throat before she could even open her mouth.
All of her, all of him, all the things in here just should d i s a p p e a r from this reality for good.
Not to escape though, not to go home. That was too kind for her at this point. She wanted everything here to die off. Meg didn’t want a single trace of what they’d had to exist in the world anymore. If she was dead on the inside because of him, it was only fair if everything else around her reflected that. Steve didn’t even seem phased by any of it and she didn’t want his half-assed apology.
He wasn’t sorry that he’d betrayed her, the brunet was only apologizing about the way he’d gone about it. Just how fake could he get? It was almost sickening to think that this was what had become of the man she’d fallen in love with.
All the love they had before... she guessed she’d never find it inside him anymore.
“You don’t get to say that to me,” she whispered, voice soft as her dead eyes locked onto him. In the back of her mind, Meg wondered if her eyes were bloodshot from the endless tears it felt like she was always crying these days. The athlete wrapped her arms around herself before she continued, “You left me, Harrington. I gave you everything I had and you turned your back on me just like I’d always feared. There was never a doubt in my mind that I was unlovable and I’d come to terms with it. Then you showed up and swept me off my feet just to toss me to the side once things got a little too hard on you.”
Betrayal filled her up as the tears started to flow again. She didn’t want to cry in front of him, didn’t want to show just how ruined she really was. The ginger desperately tried to blink the tears away, refusing to take her eyes off of him. If she looked away for a moment, that pocket knife might find its home in her gut once more.
“I’ve been trapped here for three years,” Meg admitted, answering the one question she’d always avoided back when they were together. Biting the inside of her cheek, her nails dug into her arms. Small crescent-shaped cuts were carved into her skin from how tight her grip was, as if the small amount of pain was the only thing keeping her from falling apart completely, “I’ve been here three years and I’ve never hurt as much as the moment you turned your back on me. Give me my heart back, I don’t want to be in love with you anymore.”
It isn’t fair to be the only one still in love, she just wanted to stop feeling.
