Today is the National Day For Truth and Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day. One way to acknowledge the horrible crimes Canada has committed against Indigenous people in the form of residential schools is to learn more and to support Indigenous authors' books about it. Be sure to follow Indigenous people on social media and support their works directly. I'm working on a longer resource list, but in the meantime, these are some of the books you can grab. -Sugar Falls: A Residential School Story by David Alexander Robertson, art by Scott B. Henderson -Phyllis's Orange Shirt by Phyllis Webstad, art by Brock Nicol -Speaking Our Truth: A Journey of Reconciliation by Monique Gray Smith -Fatty Legs: A True Story by Christy Jordan-Fenton and Margaret Pokiak-Fenton, art by Liz Amini-Holmes #orangeshirtday #truthandreconciliation #residentialschools #indigenousreads #indigenousliterature #reading #books #booksofinsta #bookstagram #booksofinstagram #nonfictionbooks #comics #picturebook#kidlit https://www.instagram.com/p/CUdv2zcr77_/?utm_medium=tumblr
