'I think you are so . . . hemmed in by your own feelings about yourself that you have no idea of how you make other people feel.'

Mean Girl's references are still in, right?
Thank you so much for the WIP tags @ghost-of-a-dream-girl, @gortashsrighthand, @carnivaley, @aerin67, and @fireflyeyes!
I have loved every minute of reading everyone's renditions of "Make-Them-Beg Monday." I sincerely did not believe that it would catch like fire, but I'm so proud that it did! Exceptional writing to all who participated this week!!!
I have noticed a trend where everyone is doing whump snippets and I MAY have one of my own, hehe. After posting the Chapter 16 rewrite this week, I have taken a small break from Stealing Moonlight and refocused myself on that Gortash AU I started back in January that actually made me cry!! It's still angst, but more of a hurt/comfort type angst.
Without further ado, a snippet from Chapter 2 of A Dowry of Smoke!
“You woke the household again last night.”
At that, she turned from the window to look at him properly. Found those grey eyes- Ravenshade grey, the same grey she remembered from her father- watching her with that quiet, assessing quality she’d spent thirteen years trying to make him stop directing at her, never once having succeeded.
“I apologize,” she said flatly. “For the disturbance.”
He waved a hand, gracious and forgiving. “I’m not concerned about the disturbance, Rowan. I’m concerned about my niece.” A pause she recognized- the kind of pause that preceded carefully chosen words. “You’ve suffered a tremendous loss. No one would think less of you for grieving.”
Grieving. The word felt vastly insufficient. A thimble offered to bail out a quickly flooding ship.
“I appreciate that,” she said. She picked up the tea, mostly to occupy her hands. It was warm, the right blend of Pale Jade- he’d remembered. He always remembered the small things like that. It was one of his many methods, small remembered things, one of the ways he maintained the impression of warmth without ever quite generating any. “I’ll be alright.”
“Of course you will.” He smiled, and it reached his eyes just enough. “You’re a Ravenshade. We endure.”
She looked into her cup before bringing it to her lips and taking a long pull of the liquid.
She could feel it coming. The way you could feel a storm approaching in the change in pressure of the air before even spotting the first cloud on the horizon- some instinct honed by years of watching this man navigate drawing rooms and dining tables like they were campaign maps. She knew the shape of his conversations, knew the particular rhythm of his preambles, knew that warmth and condolences were what you were offered before you presented someone with a bill.
“I’ve had word,” Meyer said, his tone shifting into something lighter, almost conversational, as though what he was about to say had simply occurred to him. “From the Archduke’s office.”
The tea went tasteless on her tongue.
She said nothing as she eyed her uncle from the rim of her cup.
“Given everything that’s happened- the extraordinary things you and your companions have done for this city- there is naturally a great deal of attention being directed toward those involved.” He turned his signet ring once. A small habit. She had first noticed it when she was twelve and had never been able to ignore it since. “The Archduke, Enver Gortash, has been gracious enough to extend his congratulations personally. To the family.”
“Has he.” Not a question.
“He is an exceptionally important man now, Rowan. The most important man in this city, one might argue.” A weighted pause. “And he has been remarkably patient.”
There it was.
She set the teacup down a little harder than she meant to. “I thought I had made myself clear on that subject.”
“You made yourself clear that you wished to pursue another arrangement.” His voice didn’t shift, didn’t harden. No, it remained gentle and measured and utterly immovable, which was always much worse than anger. Anger she knew how to answer. “That arrangement is no longer-”
“Don’t you dare.” The words cracked out of her, sharp-edged.
“- available to you,” he finished, as though she hadn’t spoken at all. “I am sorry, my dear. Truly. I know that you cared for him.” Another pause, perfectly calibrated sympathy, precisely the right length and not a second longer. “But you are an unmarried woman of exceptional breeding, and it is my responsibility as your guardian to see you well settled. That has not changed.”
Guardian. That word. She had always hated the shape of it in his mouth.
“I am twenty-three years old,” Rowan said, very quietly. “I have led people into battle. I have stood in front of a creature with godhood woven through every synapse and I did not flinch.” She kept her hands still, resting on her knees through an act of concentrated will, feeling the restless heat of her magic pressing against the inside of her skin. “I believe I am capable of-”
“You are an unmarried woman,” Her uncle said again, patient as stone, “under this roof, under my guardianship, with no independent means of supporting yourself.” A slight tilt of his head, almost apologetic. “I do not say these things to wound you. They are simply the facts of your situation.”
The room went very quiet.
She became aware, slowly, of the warmth building in the center of her chest. Not grief this time. This was something older, more volatile- the thing that had always lived inside of her, the thing that Meyer had learned, through years of careful navigation, never to push too directly. She could feel her magic responding to it the way it always had, undisciplined and immediate, flickering at the edges of her composure like a flame that hadn’t yet decided how large it wanted to be.
NOTES: This is an AU where Gortash lives and Gale used the orb to defeat the Nether Brain. Gale is dead and the wild magic sorcerer lady that romanced him is heavily grieving.

If you have ever, for some unfathomable reason, wanted to irritate every single person on staff at a vet hospital, this is the way to do it:
They were not only late to their appointment, but are the last appointment of the day. We book wellness visits for the last 2 appointments so that we can start our cleaning duties as this clinic wants us to be able to leave on time so we can get home to our families.
So now, not only are they late, their appointment is going to take twice as long. We close at 5, it is now 4:56 and they only just left the room. Which means reception, techs, doctor, and kennel might be staying late because of something this owner has known about for 2 entire days.

BREAKING: Peace Negotiations Fail! Trump Retaliates! | The Young Turks
The Melania Trump Scandal Just EXPLODED | Valhalla VFT
this guy makes anything funny, but I'm afraid as much as he protests against individual mistakes MAGA makes—the fact he says America Only, tells you all you need to know in terms of whether he too would make similar moves against humanity bc that is literally the choice rn: Take the big L, or Grab them by the p#$$* (anything goes wildcard)..
What I like about this particular episode is how he breaks down the delusion of thinking the world would shift from exporting oil from Iran to travelling 2 months to NYC port rather than the 1wk to Iran.. economically implausible.
Q1: cost of redirecting empty tankers to NY port rather than Iran
Redirecting empty tankers from Iranian ports to the U.S. East Coast (NY) amid the 2026 Strait of Hormuz crisis carries massive costs due to the surge in tanker rates, exceeding $29 million per supertanker voyage, a record high. This shift, driven by a U.S. blockade of Iranian ports, quadruples shipping expenses as a percentage of oil prices and shifts demand away from the volatile Middle East.
Skyrocketing Shipping Costs: As of early March 2026, hiring a supertanker for a 2 million-barrel load from the US Gulf Coast to Asia reached over $29 million, causing shipping costs to comprise nearly 20% of the oil price.
Redirecting Impact: Redirecting tankers away from the blocked Persian Gulf to U.S. ports means skipping shorter, lower-cost routes, significantly increasing voyage times and fuel consumption.
Market Volatility: The blockade has caused extreme volatility, with Brent crude rising over 7% to over $100 per barrel due to the risk of blocked passage, adding further financial risk to tanker operators.
Long-Term Shift: The cost of redirecting involves not just daily operational costs, but the long-term investment in U.S. Gulf Coast export infrastructure to accommodate the changed shipping patterns.
Alternative Routes: While alternatives like the East-West Pipeline exist, the cost of moving away from Iranian infrastructure is high, particularly with Iran's influence over the strait and its lower-cost options
Q2: average speed of oil supertanker
Oil supertankers typically operate at an average service speed of 13 to 17 knots (approximately 24–31 km/h or 15–20 mph). While some can reach higher, they usually travel at lower speeds to maximize fuel efficiency and safety, especially when loaded.
Average Speed: Generally 10 to 15 knots, often optimizing around 13-17 knots.
Speed in km/h: ~22–30 km/h (roughly 12–15 miles per hour).
Loaded vs. Empty: Larger, fully laden supertankers (like the TI-class) often travel around 16.5 knots, but may slow down to "slow steaming" speeds of 12-15 knots to conserve fuel.
Slower speeds for tankers are deliberate, as they improve fuel efficiency for long-distance journeys and ensure better stability
Q3: indonesia shipment route to US NY port total distance?
Shipping from Indonesia to New York (NY) via the Suez Canal covers approximately 10,800 nautical miles (12,428 miles / 20,000km). The route typically goes from Jakarta through the Indian Ocean, Red Sea, Suez Canal, and across the Atlantic, taking roughly 30–46 days for ocean freight, depending on the service, with major shipments originating from the Port of Tanjung Priok. [A roundtrip at 12mph = 69days]
Route: Jakarta → Indian Ocean → Red Sea → Suez Canal → Mediterranean → Atlantic → Port of New York Alternative Routes: In cases of high risk in the Red Sea, vessels may go around the Cape of Good Hope, adding significant distance and time.
Q3.1: indonesia shipment route to Iran port total distance?
A standard sea shipment route from Indonesia (Jakarta) to Iran (Bandar Abbas) is approximately 4,000–5,000 nautical miles, generally taking 20-30 days. The route traverses the Strait of Malacca, crosses the Indian Ocean, and enters the Persian Gulf via the Strait of Hormuz, with Agora Freight estimating a typical 23-day transit for FCL (Full Container Load).
Distance: Approximately 7,500 - 9,500 km (roughly 4,000 - 5,100 nautical miles). [(5100mx2)/15mph=680hrs/24hrs=28d/round trip, which is adding 41d/tanker]

When did you leave your job? Why?
Like last week. And honestly, for a buttload of reasons but the most recent was that they had the schedule printed for two weeks, so randomly they called me up three days before a shift (that i wasn’t originally scheduled for) and were like “you have to work that day actually”. And i told them that my dad had a surgery scheduled that day and i had already agreed to take care of his after care (drive him to his appointment, wait with and for him and then take him home and watch him) so i actually wouldn’t be able to work that shift. And the manager responded with “we have the right to change your schedule 72 hours in advance. But I’ll make a note you won’t be coming in for your scheduled shift.” And that shit got me mad fucked up. I thought it was super disrespectful and inconsiderate and i was fed up with the unprofessionalism so i left. AND they’re short staffed . AND my bestie quit after me. AND they’re losing another employee in a month or so cuz she’s moving for school. Serves them right😌💅✨
If my break room is anything to go by, for whites, the people who blast their phones at full volume are boomers and gen-xers and for minorities, it’s pretty much all of them, no specific age group is worse than the other it seems
