lately ive been thinking about what it means to be someone. what really makes this An Identity. where is identity stored? identities are mutable over time, very flexible, how does this relate to being a person? why does it say my name on my passport? if im not the same person as i was a few years ago, which is a common saying, why am i allowed to carry her name? why do identities change so slowly? if the essence of being someone is a gradual change in identity, would i die if my brain got overwritten by that of myself in a week? who am i? could i randomly blink out of existence? we know that weights in neural networks store preferences and personality, do they encode identity? if all the pulses disappeared randomly and you "restarted" a brain from scratch would it bootstrap to the same "identity"? is it possible to die and be replaced by someone with the same memories or would that just be the same person? who am i? if i died and was replaced by someone with the same memories would anyone notice? could i die by being erased from my mind and have nobody look for me? who am i?
