Meet Pica. Well, that's what I call her. It's short for Picea Pungens and though these wonderful prickly trees have both male and female characteristics, I choose to anthropomorphisize this blue spruce as a "she" called Pica. We had one growing in our Canadian yard that was almost 40 feet tall. Years later, living in the States, we decided to get a Christmas tree that we could plant rather than buying a cut one; do the planet a favor and improve our landscaping at the same time. So with visions of our old tree, we purchased a four foot tree in a pot. We put plastic on our wood living room floor under the pot and watered it periodically through the Christmas period. She looked great all decorated. After Christmas, we planted her in our front yard. Though she's a slow growing tree, if she reaches the height of our tree from years past, I will be long gone. But she's a hardy little thing that has already become a living birdhouse. We also discovered we needed thicker plastic--our beautiful wood floor warped spectacularly under Pica. We now had about an elevated 4" hump where Pica had stood watch. I thought it would be an expensive fix. We decided to wait until Spring to fix it. Luckily as it got warmer, the wood dried on its own and suddenly we had a flat floor again. Moral: it's probably not a good idea to grow trees in your house during the winter (I was going to do a pun about blue trees 🌲 and singing the blues...maybe another time.). #christmastree #bluespruce #inapot #warped #wetfloor #savethetrees #savetheearth #merrychristmas #happyholidays

The worst thing about travelling is that it has to end. El Nido's beauty captivated me. It was worth the almost 8-hour air and land travel. I got to meet a lot of people, learned new things and came to realizations about myself that helped me be a better person. #Palawan is a gem and I will truly go back.
