I was scrolling through Stan and came along "In & Out" and I was like "this seeks familiar, have I seen it??" . The synopsis didn't seem familiar but than just realised as I pressed play that I had seen this. Man, how cool was Kevin Kline!? I feel like I need to go find all his movies and have a binge. I've come to realise that Joan Cusack always plays a particular type of woman, a woman who was a victim of bully when she was younger or a woman who usually ends up as heartbroken or even the woman who plays the odd figure in the story..this is no different. I've come to realise that American movies seem to have a thing for "Outing" people and its not cool, especially since most of what I've heard about American is not only a huge demographic racist but also against LGBTQIA+ people. I never thought being an English teacher, well dressed and looking clean plus a long engagement with a female, automatically means a male is gay. 🤦‍♀️ I had to google who wrote this movie and found out the screenwriter is a gay man. So, I'll hold back my frustrations, instead I'll assume his gone through something similar prior to writing this script. Tom Selleck says "I'm done switching pronouns." How does that relate to being gay, particularly being a gay cisgendered man? 🤔 It's also really sad to watch this movie in 2023, realising how little society has really changed when it comes to LGBTQIA+ people. Harvey comes out as a gay man and the first thing he gets is media joy, the second thing is fired from his job. Even in 2023, sexual discrimination still happens amongst the workplace.
