You see, I whined a lot about Sanji these past weeks. Some of you might be questioning my love for Sanji. Look, I’ve been following this series since Oda hatched the egg in ‘97. After that time, I followed OP and right that instant I fell in love with this one character who is (most possibly) the kindest fictional character ever. He fed an entire fleet of enemies out of his kind-heartenedness, that cook can’t possibly do not feed starving people. 

Sanji’s character is full of contradictions. He talk trash, yet pretty suave. He’s really kind yet can kick your asses any days given. And the most notable thing about Sanji is that he’s so lecherous, pervert, ladies-man, yet he’s so honorable and respect ladies more than his own soul and life. Props. But there’s other thing too that is really great about him: he’s natural born leader. Eg. the case of gigantification of human and G5 navy in Punk Hazard. He lead the army and gave them command without even been questioned a slightest. That is unnatural, knowing that the pirates and navy should’ve fighting each others. Yet the G5 saw through Sanji’s kind heart, because he saved them without even caring that they’re actually enemies.

Sanji didn’t stop at that. He’s a loyal, caring, and even often following suit acting goofy with the childish nakama, Luffy and Chopper, and Usopp. He could blend well with almost any of the characters in the series. If it comes to shove, he even didn’t hesitate to be a little more coorporative with Zoro. The recent feats could be found on their aids for the treatment of the Mokomo people the Mink race, and the recoveries of Kin’emon’s body parts. It’s not Zoro, who’s his fellow samurai, and it’s not even Law who was fully responsible for that. It’s Sanji. And Sanji alone.

That is why I love Sanji. That is why Sanji deserved the respect from the entire fandom and the casual readers. He doesn’t deserve the hate even the slightest.

But if we’re talking about fictional characters and real human in general, we do need to change. There’s no reason for us to stay the same our entire life. We had that changes for us could adapt with the new environments.

The problem with Sanji is, he never changed. I doubt that even he wanted that changes in the first place! He’s a static character whom never changed in the slightest to improved himself. He did this out of respect to his dear mentor Zeff whom saved his horrible childhoods and gave him the proper care and affections. That is the solely reason he couldn’t hurt woman, because Zeff is the man among men; he would never hit (kick) women. But we didn’t know to what extend? Would it kill him to even hit a women a little? Would he ever trade his own life just to not hit female foes?

In short, Sanji took this motto on life only to assured himself that Zeff would never hated him. Because that is the last thing Sanji’d ever wanted in life. I could even dare to say Sanji would preferred to die rather than having Zeff hated him.

The thing is... Sanji is the only who wouldn’t want any change. He desperately stick to his code of chivalry to not lay a single hand on women. He wouldn’t even dare to hurt female foes, let alone thinking that this certain female was attempt to killed him right in front of the audience. He could never betrayed himself and Zeff’s belief.

I’m not mad at Sanji. Heck, I don’t even dislike him. I still love him as a character. You could say I’m majorly dissapointed with the way Oda handling Sanji. The man needs to moved on. Zeff would just hated himself if his belief in life would jeopardized Sanji’s own life. He need to talk to Sanji and beat the sense to his pupil’s head that his own life meant a lot to Zeff too. They’re as close as that, and I think this is what needed for Oda to clarify. Because Sanji is really hurt and traumatized since his childhood. The PTSD of rejection and disowning is still lingering in his heart and that is what Sanji’s feared the most.

I had only one wish in this arc, and nothing else. I could be careless if Sanji’s stays the same, the pervert gentleman with heart of gold, but he need to give it a further thinking about which one that could hurt him and his nakama, and what’s the best thing to do if it’s come about women. He’s not a princess, who need to be snapped out of his inner struggling world, he’s motherfuckin’ Sanji, the brilliant strategist of the crews. He’s more than this, way a lot more than this. He needed to be upgraded, kami helped him if Oda’s downgraded his character in this arc.
