"Importfest Show"

What Dreams are Made of.

It took just about two weeks, but I finally got my pictures from Importfest back from the lab! For those of you who don’t know, Importfest is the show you don’t want to miss as a car enthusiast in Toronto. As far as modified car shows it’s the biggest and best we have in this country; if you were to compare it to a big show in the States it would be most similar to Wekfest. With that said, the quality and scale of the show is not in the same league of the major US shows, but in recent years I’ve started to see more and more of our neighbours coming up from the south and more top notch builds showing themselves from across Canada.

Now that you’re all caught up I want to talk about Super Speed Wheels, and use the beautiful NA1 NSX, and 991.2 GT3 they brought out to to start out my short series of posts from the show. Although these two vehicles are far from being the fastest, most extreme, or most powerful cars at the show they are probably two of my favourites. The NSX is a beautiful exercise in restraint, there’s no wide fenders or turbos in sight, the exterior consists of a number of subtle changes that accentuate the factory lines of the car, adding the right amount of aggression that the car was lacking from the factory. The owner went about this by adding a colour matched front lip, a more aggressive body coloured rear wing, as well as more prominent aftermarket sideskirts that lead into the DF diffuser matching rear valances. While I didn’t manage to talk to the owner, I could spy a seemingly naturally aspirated engine with the standard host of bolt on modifications, with the handling being accentuated at the very least by a drop in ride height and wider stickier rubber.

The GT3 on the other hand seems to remain stock aside from the wheels, and while some people might look down on the “bought not built” approach to the GT3, it doesn’t bother me. Being optioned with a 6 speed manual, factory reclining carbon bucket seats, and sport exhaust, there really isn’t much the aftermarket can offer to improve what Porsche’s GT department has built.

Both of these cars represent what each manufacturer is capable of at building at their best. The NSX being, in my opinion, the very best drivers car Honda has built, coming out of the factory during the golden era of the marque and the same thing holds true for the Porsche. Despite the existence of both the naturally aspirated, and the turbocharged RS vehicles, I see those less as ideal enthusiast vehicles and more about bragging rights for the hyper rich.
