Hi, I don’t know who is reading this, but I hope you read it.

I am a black kid, and I would like to have a word. My brother is going to school for being a detective and I can’t help but to feel scared about his future in working with the police force. I want to feel good about him following his dreams, but I feel I can’t with how much brutality that comes on people like us every day. I know he wont be an actual officer but he is close enough. What if he gets shot and killed in the street and isn’t honored as a human? What is going to happen if he can’t get a case out due to the discrimination he faces while working? 

I don’t want to have to worry about my adult brother as much as any other person who would care for a loved one. I can’t imagine in my head a “good cop”at the moment with what is going on. I am growing up in this sort of society and feel if I have an anxiety of running by myself presenting as a black female. It hurts. I also wish to have a future where I don’t have to worry about being halted by the police because I looked like I was lost, or suspicious if I present as male? 

I don’t think anyone will see this, but I hope someone will and think about the future of this country, and if it is in good hands as of now, and safe for the next generation.

I would also like to add that a while back me and my mom went to visit my grandma, and we were stopped by the police near the border of Alabama. My mom had fear in her eyes she gave me her phone and told me to hit record if anything happened. I tried to stay calm, but I knew I wasn’t. “Were we gonna die,” was all I could think, I was 10 for god’s sake!

When you read those articles that claim your votes don't count they are targeting minority voters and using the propaganda to deter them from voting. Do NOT fall for it. Your vote counts and your voice will only ever be heard through your vote. This is me in 2016 voting for Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump.
