Big NGOs called their work “unscalable.” Patients called them angels.

Their application was handwritten on notebook paper because the camp Wi-Fi died every ten minutes. Judges didn’t care. They verified 8,400 patient records, interviewed mothers whose children were alive because of these doctors, and watched Fatima perform a delivery by headlamp.

When they won, the ceremony had simultaneous Arabic translation and 6,000 live viewers. Fatima’s speech (about healing as resistance) was shared by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.

Today their network spans four countries, employs 180 refugee medics, and has treated over 140,000 people. The same NGOs that dismissed them now fund them.
