On the Cosmos
Quietly we lie in the glittering expanse of a vast and endless universe
so unimaginably large that the void between an  existence and the next
is the ultimate barrier to the perception of what we are truly a part of
massive clouds of gases sit suspended in space, nigh-phyletic stars
forming and exploding, the crucible of our firmament a coagulationÂ
hundreds of trillions of fragments spinning, twisting, spiraling, attracting
through the darkness of the beginning, accreting, reflecting, existing
our world lies helplessly small in some foreign quadrant of someone’s god-like mapÂ
secret shields and folding waves deflecting, pulling, tugging, rewriting the paths
of the endless movement through the fabric of stygian reality
where comets and stars sing songs of unheard and unknown places
energy drums in ripples, traveling faster than the fastest of the fast
the dynamo of ancient engines radiating power into nothingness relentlessly,
incessantly, the varying forces that rule in the emptiness pull us together
give us form, function, purpose, desire, an opening eye to look into the expanse
the epic destinies of trillions of unfinished realities lie tantalizingly beyond our grasp
and here we know we are close to the truth, able to glimpse at least
a piece of the past or a fraction of the present, that may as well be one and the same
but the unremitting, interminable fractal path of the future we wrap our minds around
is only there for the children of the stars to grasp with the gentle grip of the curious
for even the mightiest of fists could not begin to grope or to apperceive
the rumbling, bubbling, growling furor hidden in every corner of this corner-less wilderness
when like the moonlit wolf we gaze with respect, fear and rancor flickering in our souls
heating the cauldron of our own ingenuity and disbelief at what we cannot see, but know must be there
how can we know until we go? shall we master the stars or join them in the sky
flying high and sparkling with intrinsic light, our minds echoing the sinew and vigor
of the giants that brought us forth from the darkness of our own nescience into the final
brotherhood that is the limitless brink of our own consciousness
heedful of that point of no return we continue to venture outwards, probing ourselves,
living our lives, touching the sky with the sighing fingers of the countless dead
that could never have known about the blinking scriptures that narrate the dance of the night
reticent to the rest of existence, we gaze on with ambition to find
that next thing we cannot yet see
