9, 19, and 29 for the weirdly specific artist ask game?
Oh thank you ♥️
9. What are your file name conventions
I do (project title)_(initials of commissioner/company name)_(1-5 numeric value for project stage, e.g. sketch, color mockup, final draft, etc)_(arbitrary numeric value of which version of that stage I am working on)_(compatibility modifier). With your basic folder nesting management on top of that (per client > per project > per stage).
For example: I'd do a "Crossroads_Bioware_1_12_web" if it was the twelfth revision of the initial sketch pitch, but sized to a web-friendly file resolution for easier review. It's a janky convention but it kind-of formed around my process as I worked, and I try to adhere to it for my own weird internal logistics reasons. I don't always manage to do so since I work on the cursed apple tablet, and file name management is generally a hassle and a half, but at the very least when populating client-side folders I always keep them like this. Less for them, since they probably just see weird numbers and letters, but more for my benefit for when I need to eyeball a specific revision or version really quickly without having to go digging through past email threads.
19. Favorite inanimate objects to draw (food, nature, etc.)
I love drawing mountainous topography and flat, stylized cloud covers. It's probably evident in all of my postcard nonsense. I love finding interesting gestures in normally uninteresting forms of texture, like cliff faces or tree bark or what have you. It's one of those points in the process where I can let go of structure a bit longer than usual, and just play. I think it's always a good idea to carve that little step out in your style or process or whatever, where you gently release the steering wheel for fun. That's everything about these postcards for me!
29. Media you love, but doesn’t inspire you artistically
I think I have answered this one before, and I said maybe comfort shows? Non-grandiose storytelling with lower stakes that doesn't quite mesh with my shiny popculture fanart shtick. Never for a lack of respect or reverence, but mainly for incompatibility of inspiration points. Something that paints in metaphors and monomyths and does so in an expensive audio/visual package will predictably pummel me with inspiration, but a slice of life sitcom that gently prods at its milquetoast story is fine just seeping into my brain without much feedback. Just as meaningful, but not as connected to my creative impulses!
