Image by @jim_abernethy // I'm super stoked to be able to focus on these very difficult shark splits in the upcoming summer monthscwhen the water is very calm. Obviously this one was taken at night! Do you like it? To most people this image would be a frightening thing to experience because 99% of the planet believes that sharks attack and consume people!   In my opinion a shark attack is really a shark mistake and the proof is actually in the statistics! Worldwide, people go in the water 7 billion times a year yet only an average of 75 people are bitten by a shark and an average of less than 6 die per year from this bite.  If sharks truly looked at humans as a food source we would not be able to go in the water we would be dying all over the planet because sharks would very easily be able to attack and consume us wherever they live! Almost every animal on the planet fights and kills more humans than sharks do. But it's very hard for us to look at the domestic dog that bites someone in the United States alone every 40 seconds resulting in 4 to 5 million bytes per year resulting in an average of roughly 20 people dying from those bytes… as a man eater!  However the media has misrepresented these magnificent creatures as something that they are quite simply not! They are not mindless man eating monsters! They are sentient creatures that are responsible for maintaining the health and balance of our oceans where over 50% of the air we breathe and 70% of the protein when eat comes directly or indirectly from our oceans! Video by @jim_abernethy // Here is a truly beautiful Shark Affection video for your enjoyment in addition to showing the true nature of sharks! In this video the lemon shark your watching swam over to me, stopped swimming, raised up on its pectoral fins and opened its mouth wide, in order to let the remora's clean her teeth and get some love from me! This lemon shark's name is Darcy and we have been giving it love and affection for roughly 7 years. After it stopped swimming, I set up one of my cameras with lights, in front of it and then proceeded to give it love and affection! Darcy loves this and is completely relaxed in my presence, as well as many of my guests, as you can see! Darcy routinely looks back at me with her eyes, I believe because of the enjoyment they are receiving! These same lemon sharks that are seeking affection will routinely find their new human friends and stop swimming in front of them, in order to get more love and affection! It's very hard to believe that the animal that most people are afraid of the most, are actually a sentient creature that responds favorably to love and affection just like our dogs!
