Broad City
I have enjoyed the show āBroad Cityā very, very much the last handful of years. I actually discovered this show on a whim one day when I was lookinā for new stuff to watch (Fun Fact: I live under a rock like a total hermit and havenāt had cable for like 9 years).
I donāt often brag, but I kinda like to brag to KiM! that I showed her this show (WOO)! Granted, itās more liberal-friendly (Iām NPA) so it may not be a show I can recommend to my conservative-friendly folks. For the record I donāt lean left or right, anyone who knows me knows I am pretty centered. Not that it matters to anyone, but I prefer objectivity over default-bias. I watch a lot of shows with conflicting viewpoints, but to me I have the pleasure of enjoying everyone. ...wait, back to the show: Abbi & Ilana are like my generationās Laverne & Shirley (somewhat similar to how 30Rockās Tina Fey is like the Generation X version of Mary Tyler Moore, Ya see what I mean?).
Probably two of the funniest people Iāve seen on TV in a long time - I totally applaud and respect the work of these ladies and their crew. I watch a lot of comedy shows and movies, and there are times when I feel like guys donāt really have anything else to offer in terms of creative humor. Abbi & Ilana totally capture their awesome (and kinda wtf) qualities into these caricatures of contemporary New Yorkers livinā the struggle.
We just finally finished watching the show just recently, which is weird that weāre catching up for lost time due to this insanely awful & lame virus (understatement city). Either way it was ...not gonna lie, I totally got emotional while watching the final episode.
So, I know comedy is something that people kinda take for granted or treat like a cheap commodity (I guess laughter is free after all), but I had a personal moment of appreciation towards these ladies while watching their profound conclusion. It was a truly tasteful ending to a show that was pretty damn brave in terms of socio-political impact as well as just having the courage to explore areas normally considered taboo or absurd. This show pushed the comedic envelope (plenty of times I got super squeamish due to this show lmao whatever Iām kinda wholesome), but I think itās safe to say despite my own personal hang ups this show has become one of my personal favorites. Totally discovered this one in a time when I needed some laughter in my life. I am very grateful for these ballsy women steppinā up and showing a lot of men howās it done (and then some). We joke that KiM! is the Ilana to my Abbi (hahaha)! ***Friendly Spoiler: Video Not recommended for Immature Audiences***
