I find it fascinating how in your fics Scar is always aware he is loved, so that's not where the plot tragedy comes from. The unknowing, the uncertainty. No, he knows damn well and is regularly reminded. The tragedy comes from his self-assurance that he doesn't deserve it, that it doesn't matter, that it ultimately doesn't change his horrible decisions - which he makes mostly BECAUSE he is loved
I think it's a really cool direction since a lot of fics lean more into the (sadly sometimes canon) "Scar doesn't know he's loved at all so a lot of his decisions stem from yearning" route :)
OUGHHH you put it into words perfectly. It's so obvious that Scar is loved, Scar knows that people care about him, he just has so much doubt about how much he deserves it. And in this fic in particular the sudden appearance of his younger self is bringing a lot of things to the surface that he's tried to suppress, and it makes him second-guess how much of himself is just a facade or a mask. How can he be this person that everyone loves if he's not even sure who he is? If there's parts of himself that no one knows about? That's kind of his mindset.
