"We're Soiled Bones, and despite how injured we are, the show must go on!"

This is a little tribute to my Larp group, The Band, I recently got to play with on iHunt, a monster-hunting Larp by Poltergeist Larp.

We're playing the members of the emo/goth band Soiled Bones. We keep reminding everyone how cool we are because we're dead serious about our art. We also hunt monsters together, because our gigs don't pay enough, and life is expensive. But hunting monsters is dangerous, and we get injured quite often. So here are our characters, with the injuries they got during last event. Damian (played by @pinkfuckingfairy) got shot in the arm by a police officer, Angel (played by me) got bitten by a vampire, Gallows (played by Wibo), got their lower arm removed becasue of zombie rot, and Mara (played by Pencil) accidentally got into range of Damian's weapon.

I love our stupid fake band so much and I can't wait for event 2 next year!

RPG You’d Like to See on TV 

I always give this answer for this, I’ve been giving this answer for years: somebody needs to make a #iHunt TV series. Really, seriously, right now. 

We’ve already had lots of classic monster-hunting series: Buffy, Supernatural, Grimm, izombie, etc. It’s a tried and true formula– especially when that’s mixed up with messy lore. An #iHunt series could have that, with an outside looking in approach. 

We have hunters but they don’t know much about their supernatural quarry. What they get is contradictory and incomplete. The people who do know probably chase the same quarry or know that the info has value. And frankly shit shouldn’t make sense. Over time our protagonists should be putting together their own sense of this world– only to have it overturned by some new encounter. 

That’s the monster/target side of things. The more interesting side is the gig economy of monster-hunting and what that that does to our heroes(?). They’re desperate and hungry. The system’s an even bigger foe than that which they pursue. Lots of room for great character development, real life tensions, and moral quandaries. It’s also a sharp comment on tech bro culture, the rapacious nature of gigging, and the drive to the bottom of capitalism. 

Make our characters have messy lives tied up with some supernaturals– love, sex, family disputes. It could be dynamite. Some recent media have glanced off the edge of this. Day Shift, for example, has an exploitative hunter company, but it really avoids engaging with any real critique. Any show should be messy, with a non-comedic version of the vibes of something like Los Espookys, Chambers, or 30 Coins. 

Look alive, gamers! It's the last day of April! As we head into May, let's take a quick look at what we've got coming your way!

Later this week, on May 3, you can hear us spend half an episode trying to find some verification that we're holding an official licensed Warrior Cats Pen and Paper game. I wish I could say the other half was entirely focused on making a character. It's Warriors Adventure Game.

On May 17, we take a look at iHunt, the game about killing monsters in the gig economy. Meet a cat in crippling debt as she uses iHunt, a mysterious app for monster hunters to find work like it's DoorDash or some shit but for monster hunting, to try and be the hero she believes she can be! (while paying down her debts of course)
