There are points during the human experience when individuals go through a metaphysical metamorphosis. One of these moments is when a particular dream or notion inside of one crystalizes into a belief. At this point, one ceases to intellectualize or analyze the concept and accepts it as part of their being and understanding of their reality. I believe during these times one is most connected to the source that brings peace and certainty. Many times in my life this has happened while staring at the skies. Maybe it is a coincidence that the skies and celestial bodies have often been associated with those things divine and unexplainable, but the sun, the clouds, the sky and the stars have always seemed to speak to me. In this series I explored moments in my life that I remembered having felt this connection while also carrying a camera. I would often aim it at the sky, as if only to take a photo and document that moment of internal peace. Now, years after I ever shot the first one of these, I have gone back to take a look at the collection of those moments and find the skyscapes that most moved me. I then modified the photographs of the clouds to have an abstract Rorschach quality.The design of this series of clouds is an attempt to provide the mental space for a viewer to create their own narrative of interpretation. Abstract clouds and Rorschach style images are natural provocateurs of the imagination. The former scene in people of all ages finding objects within the clouds they see in skies and the latter purposefully created as tests in which subjects’ perceptions of inkblots are recorded and then analyzed using psychological interpretation.
