(Photo grabbed from the wire...) Today marks the 50th flying year of the B747 family from its first ever flight (first test flight of the first B747) on Feb. 09, 1969 which was flown by test pilots Jack Waddel and Brien Wygle. In celebration of the 50th flying year of tue B747 family, allow me to share a summary of the Philippine Airlines' fleet of B747, which is actually my favorite livery of B747 for its simplicity, yet elegantly exuding a strong sense of Filipino pride and patriotism, with its plain white fuselage and a strong Philippine Flag in its winglets and empennage. Philippine Airlines had a strong 21yrs of flying the original Jumbo Jet, nicknamed as the undisputed Queen of the Skies, and it has become the airlines' flagship. Its first ever B747 entered into service in November 1993, which was a B747-200B variant, then it was replaced with a B747-400 with an airline registry of EI-BWF. In totality, PAL has utilized a fleet of B747 as listed below all throughout the 21yrs of B747 fleet history: B747-200B: 17units B747-400: 4units B747-400M: 1unit That's a total of 22 units of B747 in three variants. The last Philippine Airline B747-400 with aircraft registry of PR-C7473 took its final flight on August 30, 2014 as Flight PR104 from Manila to San Francisco, USA which was welcomed with a water-gun salute for its farewell flight.
