With all the tragedies that have happened in our nation over the last few weeks, and internationally for months prior, it's difficult to feel optimistic about humanity and the future. Let us honor the dead and grieve with the families by each individually forsaking selfishness, and pride, and instead seek and esteem virtues of love, forgiveness, honor, honesty, and integrity as we treat each person (even those who don't deserve it) with respect. Recently I went exploring out in the Everglades at Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park. The day was hot and humid - a typical Florida day in summer, and the breeze left us once we started down a dirt road flaked by forest on each side. The mosquitoes were great at finding skin "unprotected" by repellant and it was not the most pleasant experience. But one of the cool things was that in some places I felt I was walking though a South America jungle. As I look through my photos I wonder why I didn't stop to shoot one those moments, maybe it was because of the sweat, maybe because I just wanted to get where we were going asap, maybe because I was being lazy at the moment. Whatever combination of reasons it was I would like to return to some of those same places and shoot again. The road continued, but it became time to retrace our steps. Sunrises and mornings spent in the water have been among the most favored moments of my year. I've been reviewing images shot over the last 8 months and I'm pleased as I've seen my style and capabilities expand, but disappointed since I don't have as much variety as I would like. As I've begun to focus on "in water" photography I've also slightly neglected or deemphasized other genres. This is wonderful as I find a niche and start to focus, but frustrating as I still want more variety and miss other types. A few weeks ago my adventure buddies and I canoed some of Turner River. Of course we paddled some, but the mangrove tunnels were so small and tight we mainly just pulled ourself along using the overhanging branches. Later on out of the tunnel @joseph_escuage sent the drone up and I climbed out of the canoe to get some shots... the ground out there is really mucky. Shortly after this shot is when the sky decided to dump on us and we took some shelter under some branches.
