Tag Game: 10 Favorite QL Performances
I was tagged by @befuddledcinnamonroll (here). Thank you for tagging me! โก
Rules: Post 10 gifs of your personal top 10 QL performances you've seen, the one's that drilled into your heart and took over your brain. This is low pressure. Add words if you want, but the gifs are the only requirement. Then tag 5 friends to hand out their tumblr awards.
I'm stealing befuddledcinnamonroll's disclaimer because I feel the same: this is who comes to mind for me today, ask me another day, you may get different answers. In no particular order.
I've been thinking a lot on whom to add in this list and I'm sorry to say that I'm not going to be original. I made the list while I was in the train today.
Mix Sahaphap as Wen in Moonlight Chicken
I will admit here that I think Mix is an amazing actor and I've tried to watch every series is in it even if he has a small role (Hello The Juggle! I didn't like you that much, but you had Mix as a mysterious bar owner). Moonlight Chicken has a stellar cast who did so well, but I will never forget how Mix's performance drew me to Wen. There is something about how he can convey so much through his eyes. He was one of my favorite parts of the series.
2- Bright Rapheephong as Yai in I Feel You Linger in the Air.
Bright did such a good job in portraying Yai. The scene where he was drunk in love reciting a poem to Jom, always gets to me. He had the same aura as the male protagonists in Jane Austen's books. He is kind, honest and so loyal to those he loves. I would even say he was quite empathic and mindful of others. Again, I think what drew me to this character is how he gave so much about what he felt through the lingering gazes he shared with Jom and the sweet intimacy of their relationship.
3. Gun Atthaphan as Black and White in Not Me
Whenever I think of someone who could play two different characters and make you believe they are really different even though they have the same "face", I think about Gun in Not Me. I'm still impressed by how he did it and how you could clearly see the difference between White and Black. This is my favorite role of Gun and I never get tired of watching Not Me. This series and this performance will always have a place on my top 10.
4. Gawin Caskey as Pisaeng in Be My Favorite
Again I believe this is Gawin's best performance to me. I like how he portrayed the discovery of his character's sexual orientation/identity. Despite how patient he was, his character had flaws, but he learned from his mistakes and grew. I really appreciate how Gawin highlighted it through his acting. He made me really like this character.
5. Jin Yun as Jiang Shao Peng in See Your Love
How not to love this character? Jin Yun made a great work when he acted as Shao Peng. It was his first work and he gave such a sweet and realistic portrayal of a deaf character who was resilient and didn't let his insecurities or disability define him. I liked how he showed the vulnerability of Shao Peng, but also the strength he had. He made Shao Peng being such an interesting character to follow.
6. Mio Athens as Tan/New in Dead Friend Forever
I will never forget how amazed I was by the downward spiral of Tan's mental state and how well it was shown by Mio's performance. We started by seeing his character as no more than a background character to finally realize he was behind everything that happened to the group of friends. We could see how he lost it when his brother died and how revenge consume him until the end of the series. This was so fascinating.
7. Khaotung Thanawat as Ray in Only Friends.
To be honest, I hesitated with Ayan in the Eclipse, but I believe he did an even better job in Only Friends. Only Khaotung could make me like a character like Ray. It would have been so easy to make this character insufferable, but Khaotung found the right balance in showing his flaws while making you feel for him. He infused a tragic vulnerability to Ray. You could see the broken parts hidden behind his bravado and how he was suffering from it. It made me want to see him heal, to see him love and be loved and to see him grow.
8. Namping Napatsakorn as Khem in Khemjira
I think Namping deserves his place on this list for his ability to show the difference between him as Khem and him as Jet. He really knew how to make you see Jet in him. More than that, he did an interesting depiction of a young cursed man who still had compassion and hope to survive. His kindness and loyalty to those he loved was shown through Namping's excellent performance.
8. Lin Jin Sub as Jae Won in The Eighth Sense
The Eighth Sense was not an easy watch to me, but I cannot find any fault in Lin Jin Sub's character. He appeared as first as a popular guy who had everything, but slowly we discovered what he was hiding. I believe Lin Jin Sub did a realistic portrayal of a character who suffered from mental health issues. He brought out the complexity of this and how it is masked sometimes.
9. Top Piyawat as many different characters in Every You, Every Me
It was quite impressive to see him switch from different roles in the same series. None of these characters were the same and he was very versatile in showing their differences.
10. Cho Si Hyeon as Peace in The Bangkok Boy
You thought I wouldn't find a way to bring the Bangkok Boy into this post?! I wish I had something better than befuddledcinnamonroll to say about his performance, but I can just invite you to read what was written about Cho Si Hyeon in their post. I think it's an impressive first job for Cho Si Hyeon, especially as he doesn't speak a lot of Thai and was working in Thai production. It shows his dedication in making this character realistic.
Dunk Natachai as Style in The Heart Killer:
I told you I wasn't original ^^". Trust me, I'm not trying to copy befuddledcinnamonroll, but I really liked how he played Style. It's the first role that made me appreciate Dunk's acting.
2. Aye Sarunchana as Praemai in Be My Favorite
I guess I could add every actorย in this series because I loved every one of them and that's thanks to the actors who played them. Aye is a brilliant actress and she made this character amazing. To be honest, I'm half tempted to make a list with only actresses in QL series because I chose only men's performances here.
3. Pooh Krittin as Thup in Goddess Bless You From the Death
I know the series isn't really over, but I'm impressed with how he improved a lot. I'm not saying he was bad, but you can see that he really conveys more through his acting nowadays. It shows that he worked hard.
4. Daou Pittaya as San in Century of Love
He made me love a meanie old grandpa who took his time to learn how to allow himself to love and be loved again after all the hardships he had to face.
5. Sawamura Rei as Keito / Haoran in Happy of the End
I can't add more gifs, but I liked what he did in this series. He played a very complex role where he had to show the damage a life of survival, rejection, abuse and abandonment could do to one person.
This post ended up being longer to write than I thought.
I'm tagging @dramalove247, @nabi-unveiled, @paulinamakes, @mikuni14, @bluesandfilms and @hughungrybear (I know I already tagged in not-so-easy to write tag game, but you can also take your time to play this one! ๐
