Though I love Jessie J, I was listening to her song Do it Like a Dude when I had the thought: Why is doing anything like a man something to aspire? Why isn’t it good enough to do it like a woman, why does she make a men’s way seem more powerful, more important? She puts down fruity drinks, talks about bitches sitting on her dick. And I love this song, I do. The beat is awesome, and I love the women in the video. I dislike the idea that women are not powerful however. That because we have a vagina, because we dress in skirts, in cute clothing, do our hair that we are any less effective then a man. And this is a real issue to me, because a lot of women downplay their power, and I resent it because I feel as though a woman can sure as hell do anything a man can do.

I mean, this has me so furious! My Grandma told me about when she worked back before women had equal rights in the workforce. She had one boss that frequently flirted with her, regardless of the fact that she was happily married and had 2 children. He was always trying to get her alone, and then when his boss was out of town, he invited my Grandmother on a business trip’ in which they’d be all alone. When she refused to go her he fired her. No explanation, no references. I mean, the movie 9 to 5 is a great representation of how women were treated back then. Made to feel less than a man, made to feel inferior in not only ability but also in intelligence. Often my grandmother would train a man, and then he would be promoted instead of her.

I honestly couldn’t imagine being told that I was inferior when I was working, raising children, running a household, and managing a husband. It is better now, but it is still not equal. There are still fewer women in positions of power then men, and it is extremely difficult for them to get there and stay there. And we are expected to be SO much! Caregiver, Organizer, Strength and clear headedness in a time of crisis; and of course we must look ‘good’ by societies standards otherwise we are judged as odd and weird. Our weight should be perfect; otherwise we are criticized and ridiculed, sometimes even openly by the opposite sex. Yet men can wear whatever and weigh as much as they want.

;asdkfhj’asjhga;shg!!! This subject is so frustrating to me, because I have a lot of guy friends who really don’t understand me when I talk about women’s rights. They don’t see how women are treated unequally, and they often call me silly and crazy. Grrrrr.
