I don’t have time to research how to best defend my data outside of the well known and standard options. I don’t have time to figure out a new program, or how to get into the code of my phone. I don’t know how to decide what search engine is better suited for my needs. I shouldn’t have to fortify myself and be suspicious of everything just so that I can safely do research for an essay I need to write for my study.

I followed a computer class a few years ago. I was pretty good at it. Then I don’t pay attention to technology for a few years and suddenly everything is different, worse, and wants to do you harm.

And I also know that I won’t be able to convince my family that they need to protect themselves. I couldn’t even talk my mom out of buying something from TEMU. And if their data gets stolen, my information will be in there too. Even if I do manage to protect myself.

I've blocked and reported them already but tagging staff here as well so hopefully this can be sorted before anyone actually falls for it.

House Energy and Commerce Committee will introduce a legislative package called the "Kids Internet and Digital Safety Act" that combines a dozen bills about age verification this Thursday. The new package will include the latest version of the KOSA - the Kids Online Safety Act - as well as other measures. During the markup, the panel will also consider standalone bills on an array of topics including smartphone age verification. Nonetheless, they expect a largely partisan markup. Phones. The markup will also include the App Store Accountability Act as one of the standalone measures. The proposed legislation would require users to verify their ages to create accounts on smartphones, potentially through a credit card or a government ID. Democrats have said they believe the bill is unconstitutional, citing a federal district court’s decision to pause a similar law in Texas last year. That’s being appealed. A rival, bipartisan bill would give parents more tools to manage their kids’ smartphone usage. Source
