Reddit just made a new thing where +18 subreddits can only be accessed when you verify by selfie or id. I cannot even access my own post anymore though ppl can still comment etc.
This was out of the blue; I got no notification for this.
My own fucking post is now inaccessible to me without having to trust that my id or face won't get sold to some ad people or worse.

This is very very important, YouTube is being banned all across the country right now and some of the states including Florida have approved of this law unless you hand them your personal information. You will need to call your representatives, however this website will give you a script on what to say so no need to worry. I understand how nerve wracking it is and trust me I know but this is more important than ever. I've done my fair share on this and I encourage you do the same. This is also a violation of the first amendment, and I don't want to hear any "there's no point". Mindsets because that's how we lose everything. confirming that a user is at least 18 through digital identification, government-issued identification or a commercially reasonable system relying on public or private transactional data,
such as records from mortgage, education or employment entities.
Third-party age verification providers would be barred from retaining identifying information about users.”

I've read that, allegedly, Android phones are going to be getting the same on-device age verification as IPhones have very soon in the UK (not sure what "soon" means). What is the current IPhone one like if you don't want to give your ID over? Can you just not use your phone at all or is it like...restricted but you can still text/call/access some apps?
if i am forced to do age verification, and my id inevitably gets stolen from a database breach i am holding both the company accountable because you were allegedly trusted to keep it safe AND the government accountable for creating the environment for it to happen in the first place. My data wouldn't have been at risk if you perhaps used codes/other ways of telling websites a user is 18 or over instead of making them send your ENTIRE ID
i have decided to write a letter to my local MP (one of them? there's two that cover my area apparently bcs of where I am) about the UK id verification and the bans it wants to implement for under 18's because um GLARING safety/privacy/security issue and also, well, if the ban is to get them outside then are they...are they gonna put more funding into youth services and projects, and health/mental health services or???
