"Hey Maverick!" Ice caught Maverick from behind, picking him up a little and hugging him tight. "It's too hot here. You're going swimming with me."
Mav jumped about a foot in the air at the sudden approach, quickly brushing off his fear whilst laughing over the suggestion. It was much too hot around here and although he had nothing to occupy him throughout the day, he knew full well that swimming with Ice wasn’t always a safe thing to do. The blondes playful nature seemed to take him by surprise everytime and Maverick ended up in the deep end, quite literally, half the time. “Oh.. I don’t think so — d’ya remember last time? I’m not falling for that one again.”
♦ Fly Away From Here ♦
There was a nagging numbness in the pilots chest that would not fade, no matter the kind of medical attention he received over his complaints. Time had been wasted visiting more than several clinics on and around the base and still, no one was any the wiser. It had occurred to him a number of times that this pain he felt might very well be in relation to his loss- but then he would have to confess and open up to all his sadness and he didn't much like the idea of appearing weak. That mistake almost ruined his career in the past and he was not prepared for it to happen again. That horrid accident in which he lost Goose would forever haunt him; it was just one of those things, unfortunately. And this new problem he had would do the same unless he took notice and got to the root of it, before it got worse. Maverick knew full well the reason behind this dull ache, but he had no sure way of treating it anymore. He didn't believe Ice would even bother to look at him again, nevermind talk to him. And he wouldn't blame him in the slightest; he had messed up big time, so much so, no apology could have mended what was broken. His regret hung over him like a gloomy little raincloud and at any moment, it threatened to pour down on the bursts of happiness he found throughout each day. But it was never really enough for him to be truly happy. There would only ever be one cure for his wounded heart and at this point, he believed he didn't stand a chance, so what was the point? Nothing seemed worth the struggle anymore. Taking chances was something Mav did often and this was no different, but all the courage he once had, had been zapped to pieces since losing the only man he had ever loved, and wanted to spend forever with. The ride to the place he hoped Ice would be was terrifying for him, but he made it anyway, knowing he would spend the rest of his days wondering, if he didn't try now. He pulled up outside the beach house and stumbled off of his bike. Emotions were overflowing as he strolled toward the side door and gave a pretty heavy knock, more than a couple of times, wanting to be heard. "Ice... you around?" he called out, though his voice was soft, perhaps too quiet to be noticed above the roaring waves.
"Just let me die."
"Oh, don't you think that's a bit harsh of a sentence? You'd make a terrible judge." Jack said with a laugh, reaching out his hand to help the stranger up from the ground. "So you walked into a glass door. Who hasn't walked into a glass door before?"
He waited for the other man to grab his hand, and simultaneously reached for the handle of the offending door with the other, opening it effortlessly. "In you go, sir. It's like it never happened."
Rather cheesy, but this is how Maverick feels about Ice.
