oh my gosh, so my internet buddies (who happen to also be buddies, but in the real life and internet form) tyler and cat have both tagged me in this weird q+a thingy. not one to shy away from queries (this is the closest i get to being like an episode of inside the actor's studio), here are my attempts. the rules of the tagging thingy are:

So, since tyler tagged me first, here are her questions:

1. What was your first screen name? i had several, and they were ALL terrible! a) ankharah: from my goth/faux egyptian worship phase

b) eclectic_sparkle: from my days of being super into spike jonze music videos (i'm so old)

c) eclectic_daisy: because i was a super eclectic 14 year old, and daisies are my favorite flower.

d) gutter_glitter: see goth phase

3) puella_absurd: because being a super "eclectic" 15 year old that took latin meant coming up with a super edgy and hip (read: dorky) screen name that i still can't quit

2. What is your life motto? credo quia absurdum est/ain't i a woman

3. What would be your ideal breakfast, lunch, and dinner?

*breakfast: buratta, tomatoes, crusty baguette

*lunch: buratta, tomatoes, crusty baguette

*dinner: seared scallops with risotto or grilled asparagus. or...you know, pizza from nyc.

4. What is a weird complaint you have about your physical appearance?  (Like the “my nail beds suck!” scene in Mean Girls) (You are all beautiful and perfect though): i feel anger toward my neck (adapted from nora ephron, of course), also my earlobes get flakey when the weather is dry. also my right boob is bigger than my left and it makes my necklaces lopsided.

5. What would your love potion smell like?: prada pour homme intense. the sexiest, smokiest of colognes. i steal sprays from mike whenever i can.

6. What do you wear to bed?: pj pants (always gillian + o'malley from the bullseye. always) and a random tee, either already on me, or very near me.

7. How do you feel about shopping?: love shopping. i also love shopping alone (clothes). i hate going clothes hunting with someone who takes forever/isn't fun. i do however love knick-knack (as in everything but clothes) shopping with people.

8. What do you think happens after you die?: i stop breathing, and people start crying.

9. Have you ever been to a movie by yourself? (If you haven’t, you should try it because it’s the best): going to a movie alone is one of the most empowering activities, followed by solo dinners. it's an amazing way for me to see all the movies nobody else wants to, and it feels so freeing. 

10. What are you most afraid of? death, spiders, not being liked, not being smart/smart enough, never traveling to the places i want to travel to, not being influential with my voice

11. How do you feel about cilantro? ;): i generally ask for extra in everything, so....i kind of love it a lot.

What is your favorite movie? harold and maude.i believe it should be everyone's favorite. i could list more movies, but i think i'll waist space on tv shows

What is your favorite TV series? six feet under, battlestar galactica, monty python's flying circus, the uk office, and of course, jem

What’s your favorite song? this one is a tough one. i love so so so many songs. i mean, my world stops for: it's so hard to be a saint in the city  and i've just seen a face and moonage daydream and so many other things that my head can't think.

What’s your favorite book? ghost world. high fidelity, anais nin's diaries, and the phantom tollbooth

What’s your favorite quote? if you find it hard to laugh at yourself, I would be happy to do it for you.

What’s your favorite animal? duck billed platypus

What’s your favorite clothing accessory? i'm pretty partial to pants, but i also have a thing for blazers and scarves

What’s your favorite hot tea? earl grey, followed by darjeeling

What’s does your dream home/yard look like? this is my dream house. dream gardens are either the norton simon sculpture garden or the boboli gardens in florence (fun fact. i lived in florence for a summer)

What hand do you drive with? mostly my left

What’s your biggest fear? that other people will see me the way i see myself

What’s your ultimate dream in life? to be the person i always hoped i could be

…i was not a fan when the harry potter books came out. to be fair, i had never read them. i was 17/18, and in that phase where i really didn’t know what was out there. i remember coming back from a study abroad, and in the airport known as charles de gaulle, a friend of mine began to squeal. she had found french copies (obviously) of the first two books. that was when i realized that the series was much much more than just some “kid books”. it wasn’t until i saw both films that i really began to fall into love…flying cars? snowy owls that deliver mail? heroes with such great power but are still just like you and me? severus snape? i was hooked.

as you know, on midnight of july the 14th in the year of your lord 2011, it all ends. the posters even say so. the final film that completes the story so many persons of so many age groups came to adore will premier. i imagine there will be tears, and some people won’t like it a all. and that’s fine. a friend remarked that this event will officially mark the end of her childhood, and i politely disagree. if jk rowling has done anything for us, it’s that she re-instilled the power of magic. not literal magic—the magic of the imagination. i don’t look at the ending of the harry potter series as something that’s truly final. that’s the beauty of literature + the arts. the PRODUCTION of the tangible goods may cease—but the story, the characters, and the power will always live on. if anything, like dumbledore’s bff fawkes, my childhood is constantly reborn. 

                    today’s picks are a collection of harry potter things i have been saving just for this blog post. things that will continue to let the legend move forward. things that will most assuredly bring a smile to your face. things that will clearly never EVER let he child within you fail to exist.
