In Bedford, David Litchfield explains the effect of doing a drawing a day on his confidence as an illustrator. One key point he makes is that we give ourselves the false impression that we only have a set amount of time to choose a career, after which there’s no going back. It’s too late. Thus we hesitate to call ourselves a this or that. Worse, we think that we cannot diversify our skills, and think that drawing is some unreachable talent that only some can access. As Litchfield shows, the range of feedback on his drawings and rising interest in his daily postings mean that anyone can access the title of “Illustrator”. In today’s economy, those who can diversify their skills will more likely gain better positions. More than just money, however, having a range of skills makes you a better-rounded person and enriches your brain health. A great video here.
