(I know I already posted this wittle Aloy on a different background, but I was playing around with how to do a night scene in this style (since Iām planning to make a day and a night version of my Songās Edge picture because Songās Edge at night is one of my favorite places in the games). And anyway I like how this turned out. It reminded me of those nights when the world feels like a snow globe and the moon is peaking through the clouds. So I thought Iād post it. I promise my next art post will be something entirely new. I have two Frozen Wilds characters who Iām planning to post in short order. But I keep thinking of more things to do with their āsimpleā backgrounds. š )

So⦠this is a little preview of a larger piece Iāve been working on. A much larger piece. 𤣠The background is not part of the larger piece, I made it just to showcase the figure in a setting that fits the style of the larger piece. This was the first figure I drew in this style, so it is not as dynamic as some of my later ones, but I think it is still kinda cute.
If you would like know more about the bigger project, Iāll include more under the cut:
So a while back I fell in love with the art style of Joey Chou and his inspiration Mary Blair. In particular I had found a storybook version of the itās a small world song/ride with art done by Joey Chou. I thought it was an utterly adorable and visually interesting an art style, so I got the book even though I was at a rather higher reading level than the bookās intended audience. š Ever since then Iāve wanted to do something inspired by that art style, but my own art skills at the time were woefully insufficient.
But now I feel my skills have improved enough to give it another go, because I loved the idea of doing a series of pictures representing the different tribes of the Horizon games in a style like the one from my old book. So Iāve been having fun playing around with making my own version of this art style!
So the big picture plan for this series is to make one picture per tribe, each showing either their capitol or their most ārepresentativeā settlement, filled with characters from that tribe/settlement. Aloy will be in every picture too, wearing an outfit from that tribe of course. I decided to start with the Banuk, using Songās Edge as their settlement. I figured their simple tent architecture and triangle motifs would translate well to this art style and make it a good place to start as opposed to something like Meridian.
At the time of posting this, Iāve finished making the main background (I still need to add a couple details like the cheiftainās tent), Aloy, Aratak, Ourea (though I may rework her headpiece), Ikrie (my fav so far), Sekuli, and the storyteller Shaman. Iām currently working on Burgrund and Naltuk, and Iām planning to also include at least the Hunters Three, preferably also Laulai, Inatut, and possibly Gildun. Oh and possibly Varga as well, even though she never shows up at Songās Edge. But she is cool, and then I have a good way to slip all three of the special Frozen Wilds weapons in as well.
However, I have also distracted myself working on other parts of the project in advance, including the Nora/Motherās Heart. Iām replaying HZD now so I thought it might be nice to work on that while the Nora characters and settings are top of mind. So there is the chance Motherās Heart could end up completed first.
(And I also had started on Hidden Ember for a while, because I couldnāt get Morlund off my brain, even though that isnāt supposed to be part of the main project at all because Hidden Ember isnāt very representative of true Oseram settlements⦠but I love it so!)
