IAM - Internet Age Media
This weekend I spent pretty much all of my time at IAMw16 which was absolutely fantastic. Buying the tickets to attend was definitely the best investment in myself I've done in a really long time.I know it sounds super cheezy but I almost feel like a changed person after it.
For me the combination of listening to amazing talks touching on a very wide range of topics and getting the chance to meet a whole bunch of new people and hear about their ideas, journeys and future projects hit me pretty hard. I feel like my eyes has been opened to a lot of new areas of working and I've been kicked in the butt by listening to people who just go out there and do things. Who dare to think differently and come up with ways of making the world a little bit better.
Some of the core ideas I took away with me was the idea of learning through play, something that's been on the top of my mind for a long time and that I try to live by (but doesn't always succeed in). I think this came back in a lot of different kinds of ways during the weekend, from different speakers to the way we all got the chance to interact with eachother in different ways.
Other great take aways: We're all kids. The youth builds the future. Dare to realize that you suck at things and it's ok.
Extra plus was that I during my second proper weekedn got to meet and hang out with a bunch of really talented and passionate people which I'll definitely stay connected to.
Piñatas, mojitos and skateboard dreams.
These last 4 days has been crazy but bloody fantastic. It started with IAM (which deserves a whole text for itself) and got mixed up with a lot of other great happenings.
After the magazine release on Thursday I met up with my new Spanish friend to have vegan food at Veggie Garden folled by extremely cheep, giant mojitos at a small, ugly but still pretty charming bar in Raval. We talked about app ideas and our joint fascination for Japan + Hayao Miyazaki.
Friday was hectic but great. Took the train all through Barcelona to Cosmo Caixa where most parts of IAM was held. I signed in, walked around in the museum, got my name tag made, put on my badge of Pablo Inglesias (which almost every Spanish person I met while wearing it told me was a crazy left wing politician) and got ready for the first talks. The mix of people and speakers were great. I'll get into them more later on but just being able to hear people talk about making niche magazines, followed by someone talking about what soft power is and how we use it is fantastic.
After that I ran home. Fixed the last things on a freelance assignment, sent it off and than got out again to meet up my friends A&M.
Satuday was filled with IAM talks and events as well, followed by a lovely little birthday party featuring a candy filled monkey piñata. We ended the day with a late dinner talking about future trips around Spain, why meeting the right person for you can be so tricky and how we'll learn how to master skateboarding before the summer is over.
Today was workshop day at IAM and I got to meet another bunch of brilliant people. I'm just competely overwhelmed by all the amazing people I've met in this city so far.
Observe, orient, decide, act & swim! Blue weekend, blue learnings & #DubaiWater @willsh #IAMW16 (en Barcelona, Spain)
