Today is the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOT)
Around the world, events are taking place today and through the week to celebrate pride and raise awareness of the LGBTQ+ cause. May 17th is the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOT), the same day the World Health Organization (WHO) declassified homosexuality as a mental disorder.
Although 72 countries still criminalize homosexuality, LGBTQ+ people continue to make advances for their rights. In Latin America, the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR) recently issued two judgments on LGBTQ+ equality, one specifically related to state-sponsored homophobia in Ecuador.
