Making the audience fall in love with a character and then killing him hurts their feelings. That's pretty good, but I think I can do worse. I could make them fall in love and then reveal at the end they were dead all along, and that their story was told by their grieving elderly husband. But nah, I already did that.
I can do worse.
What if I made a Listener character go from meek to confident, but along the way they make some bad decisions? Yeah. But I'll depict those negative actions in such an exciting way that they feel exciting and empowering and wish-fullfilling. I'll create all the high of doing wrong and create such a smokescreen of dopamine that they never question it. Then once they form a strong sense of identification with the character I can make their life fall apart and have everyone leave them. Ha ha! Then I won't end the story. Everything I built up until then was the prologue to the real story and they'll have to deal with the fallout while rebuilding their lives. Hahahhaahha AHAHAH! AND! Glimpses of the life they could have had would haunt them!! Imagine!!! Imagine "No Children" by the Moutain Goats at a low point! OHHHHH OOOOOOOOHHHHH!

Her heels slid back as she was trying to escape the snipers speed. Her curls swirled around her, staring around to the vast viewpoints.
She saw the shimmer of silver. His silver arm. Sienna knew since the pair had separated, and the children left in her care.
Her hands grasped her gun as she began to aim and shoot back.
She hated this. She hated how much this was their constant back and forth now.
Her eyes widen as she felt the bullet graze her side. She began to flinch, feeling her exposed skin leaking blood down the side.
She stops for a second as she tossed the now empty gun.
"Can you at least face me face to face, James!" She hated feeling like a sitting duck.
Her eyes darted around as she dodged his first attack. Sliding back as she kicks her heels at him. Lundging forward as she pins the soldier down.
Her once soldier, James Buchanan Barnes-
"...Why." she whispers out. Her eyes shook slightly. "Can we at least stop- not like you'll take care of the children."
"Bastard children if you tell me-" he quibs.
"Leave them alone! Your rage is at me!" She whines out.
She hated this- she yelps as she was dragged off him. Kicking her feet as she remembered the red locks. Red locks she once called a friend-
"Natasha-" she whines out as she tried to choke her.
