Making the audience fall in love with a character and then killing him hurts their feelings. That's pretty good, but I think I can do worse. I could make them fall in love and then reveal at the end they were dead all along, and that their story was told by their grieving elderly husband. But nah, I already did that.
I can do worse.
What if I made a Listener character go from meek to confident, but along the way they make some bad decisions? Yeah. But I'll depict those negative actions in such an exciting way that they feel exciting and empowering and wish-fullfilling. I'll create all the high of doing wrong and create such a smokescreen of dopamine that they never question it. Then once they form a strong sense of identification with the character I can make their life fall apart and have everyone leave them. Ha ha! Then I won't end the story. Everything I built up until then was the prologue to the real story and they'll have to deal with the fallout while rebuilding their lives. Hahahhaahha AHAHAH! AND!
