tw for bugs
THE SARGEEE hes so cute i love how he turned out
why do people only have winter seasonal depression
summer is 1000x times worse than winter. its so hot and the weather sucks, theres so many bugs and mosquitos, you have to wear less clothing to stay cool, its much harder to stay cool in intense heat than stay warm in the cold and theres more shit to do winter + as much as i dont like storms id rather it be windy and rainy rn than it being this hot. also an ac/fan bill costs a lot and in the winter i dont have to use a heater because i can just bundle up
im a lot less depressed in winter times. summer time is when my depression comes
RELIABLE ENOUGH βΛκ©ο½‘
pairing: reigen arataka x reader
synopsis: after meeting on a dating app, reigen arataka turns out to be far less glamorous than he shows.
this oneshot mentions bugs !!!
dating reigen arataka was weirdly domestic for someone who acted like talking to you took ten years off his lifespan.
you met him on a dating app after he sent you a message that was obviously rewriting at least six times before sending.
hey.
hi.
hello.
actually forget all those.
you almost unmatched him for that alone. but after that awkward start, conversations with him became strangely easy
reigen always had something to say. sometimes it was stupid, sometimes surprising thoughtful, sometimes clearly something he made up on the spot to sound smarter than he actually was, but talking to him never felt boring.
and somehow, after a few months, you ended up dating him. though dating reigen mostly meant watching a grown man panic over things that he shouldn't.
like holding your hand. or introducing you to people. or figuring out how taxes works.
"you're almost thirty." you mentioned once while helping him sort through unopened mail scattered across his apartment table.
"don't say it like that," he groaned from the couch. "you make me sound expired."
his apartment was exactly what you had expected it to be, a disaster. not filthy in a concerning way, just neglected. clothes draped over his chair, instant ramen cups stacked near the sink, blankets half falling off his bed. It looked like someone had been surviving there rather than living.
still, he always looked embarrassed whenever you cleaned up.
"you don't need to do that y'know."
"I know."
"you're making me look bad."
"you do that yourself."
"how cruel."
but his office was different. his office was sacred. the first time he let you visit during work hours, he pointed at you seriously from behind his desk.
"no relationship stuff while clients are here."
"relationship stuff?" you raised an eyebrow.
"you know," he waved his hand vaguely. "couple behavior."
"you say that like holding hands is illegal.."
"in this office? yes."
despite his own warning, reigen still got visibly nervous whenever you were around. He'd fix his tie every five seconds, sit straighter, talk louder, like he was trying to prove he was impressive. sometimes? He was.
watching him handle clients was strange because underneath all the exaggeration and dramatics, reigen was genuinely good at comforting people. he knew exactly what people wanted to hear, how to calm them down, how to make them feel safe.
you could see why people trusted him, even if half of what came out of his mouth was nonsense.
then the bug appeared.
it crawled across the office floor near the bookshelf, barely noticeable. reigen noticed immediately. his sentence immediately cut off. the color drained from his face.
"..reiegn."
"don't move."
"the bug isn't even near you."
"it's fast."
"it's not even moving."
"kill it." he whispered sharply, his eyes never leaving the floor. before you could answer, the bug twitched slightly.
Reigen made a humiliating sound and climbed onto his chair so quickly it screeched against the floor. "ITS GOING TO EAT ME!β"
you stared at him. the client sitting across the desk stared at him.
reigen slowly straighten his posture while standing on the chair, clearly his throat. "..as you can see," he said hoarsely, "evil spirits often take psychical forms."
you snorted, grabbing a nearby tissue box and trapped the bug carefully before tossing it outside.
"there, it's been defeated." I teased softly.
reigen stepped down cautiously, fixing his tie like that would restore his dignity. "thank you.."
"you're scared of bugs?"
"i'm scared of unpredictability."
"sounds like you screamed."
"i did not."
"..."
"maybe a little."
after the client left, the office settled into quiet, late afternoon sunlight spilled through the windows, basking the culture room in its light.
reigen sat at his desk, pretending to organize papers while avoiding eye contact with you.
"you know," you murmured casually, sitting on the couch. "you don't have to act cool around me."
"i don't do that."
"really?" I raised an eyebrow, staring at him.
"maybe sometimes."
a pause before he spoke up quietly.
"i just want you to think im reliable."
ah, so that was it. reigen wasn't trying to impress you because he thought he was better than you. he was trying to convince himself he was good enough for you.
you walked over to his desk slowly. reigen looked up, looking confused before you leaned down and kissed his cheek.
"you're an idiot." i sighed softly.
"..a loveable one?"
you smiled.
"unfortunately, yeah."
the smile he gave after that was small and crooked and painfully genuine, was way better than any cool act he tried pulling.

Itβs okay we can read the yaoi bedtime stories together. I had a dream last night I was hiking and I got attacked by wasps and a bee flew into my ear. I almost threw up when I awoke and I couldnβt sleep for the rest of the night. (I have a major phobia of insects)
