XVII: Comfort After Nightmare

The room was quiet except for the faint rustle of fabric as Sasuke sat on the edge of the bed, the weight of his ANBU mission pressing down on him heavier than the ache in his body. He didn’t want to think, didn’t want to remember the way shadows still clung to his skin, but his mind wouldn’t let him rest.

When Hinata entered, she didn’t speak right away. She simply sat beside him — her presence as soft as the moonlight spilling through the window.

“You don’t have to carry it all alone,” she whispered, her voice trembling as though she, too, felt the sharpness of his pain.

Hinata knew Sasuke knew it. They have spoken like this before. They have had this exact same conversation when he first started loving her, when she started loving him the same way he did, and in the days that followed the silent commitment they made.

Sasuke turned to her, catching the sorrow in her pale eyes, and it struck him deeper than any blade had.

“I can’t leave it behind,” he admitted, his voice rough but steady with the little pride he had left. Then, Sasuke continued, “It follows me everywhere, no matter how much I fight.”

Her hands reached for his, gentle but certain — her touch grounding him in a way he hadn’t realized he needed.

“You know I'm here, right?” she whispered.

“I know.”

“You're here, too,” Hinata said, smiling softly.

Sasuke’s throat tightened, and before he could think, before he could stop himself, his only arm moved around her waist, pulling her closer until her warmth pressed against him. He held her tightly, almost desperately, as if her presence could keep the nightmares at bay.

“I'm here, too,” Sasuke said, admitting to himself that he was there. He was truly there.

He closed his eyes then, letting the steady rhythm of her heartbeat soothe him, the sound softer and more healing than anything he had ever known. In that moment, he realized she wasn’t just comforting him — she was hurting too, and yet, they were choosing to heal together, wrapped in the quiet strength of each other’s arms.

In the nights that Hinata felt the same, Sasuke carried her weight as much as his own. He held her close when her ghosts would not let her rest. He didn’t ask her to speak. Instead, his only arm wrapped around her waist, anchoring them both to the moment.

“I’m here,” he murmured softly, and it was enough—enough to remind her that even when nightmares returned, she would never face them alone.

Kiyoshi: Don’t worry dude I got this

Kiyoshi: *Stomps feet*

Hinata: * the coolest guy asked me out?!!*

Yes he is (when it comes to supernaturals mostly) and I'm all for toxic Terukane but I feel like people are putting to much focus on it to the point of OOC- I think it's people's lingering hate for Teru that there still trying to make him the soul bad person even tho I absolutely KNOW Akane is also bad and would add to it as well-

I also have a mutual that ships NatsuTeru that thinks Teru would get enjoyment out of hurting/killing Hiko- ofc everyone can have there option on how a ship would be and if you enjoy the more toxic side of it that's completely fine but they think Teru would GENUINELY enjoy it- like canonically? And I've seen Terukane fics similar and idk it makes no sense to me? Teru isn't THAT sadistic at all in canon (ofc AGAIN he IS sadistic but not to that degree-)

Idk OFC no hate to any people I'm talking about- just bc I disagree doesn't mean you can't think what you do- and I'm not hating on my mutual at all ok lmao I love there crazy out of box takes and that's exactly why I'm mutuals with them even if I don't agree

I just wanted to talk a little about this bc a lot of people think this also mischaracterized version of Teru is how he would in Canon feel- ofc everyone's take on a character will be a little OOC but I personally don't think Teru's nearly as sadistic as people make him out to be and I feel like it's aggregated in his character a lot more then it actually is-
