You want to. You really do. But there's a little list in your head of things you should do first. Now that you have another person to think about besides you and Hyojin, your priorities have shifted. You need to put groceries away, make sure Daeun got put down for her nap comfortably, and then tackle the laundry you've been putting off doing.

Daeun isn't a difficult baby, but she is a clingy one with both her parents. You've gotten used to getting things done while holding her. Dishes, cleaning, organizing, even work. It's easier to do tasks with a happy but clingy baby than a fussy one in a different room. Nap times are the rare moments you can be productive without an extra eight kilos in your arms.

Naps have become more difficult in the last few weeks. She was such an easy newborn, sleeping whenever and wherever, that you took it for granted. It takes a while to get her down now. She's energetic and learning fast at eight months. Whether it's babbled responses to anything Hyojin or you say or trying to grab onto nearby objects, she's started to make her presence much louder in the house, and naps are often rejected.

Hyojin thinks she's growing up too fast, as he told you one afternoon after finally getting her to sleep. She's already started sounding out letters and trying her best to imitate gestures. You know that once she learns more sounds she will be very talkative. While you are looking forward to it, you also wish you could pause time. You want to hold onto these precious moments while she is still small.

You make quick work of putting ingredients away, wanting to get to the couch next to your husband as soon as possible. When you check the laundry basket for the dirty clothes, you find it empty. A glance into the laundry room confirms what you think. Hyojin already put it on. That's one less thing to do. Your last task is the baby monitor. You find it turned off. Turning it on only reveals an empty crib and complete silence from the nursery.

"Hyojin?" you call out in confusion. "Did you not put Daeun down for her nap? Is Seungjun babysitting again?"

Your husband shakes his head, a finger held up to his lips to shush you. One pat to the empty cushion next to him is all you need to cross the room and sit.

"She's down for her nap," he whispers. You look at him like he's crazy because Daeun was definitely not in her crib when you checked.

He chuckles softly at your expression before pushing the blanket down a little and unzipping his hoodie halfway. And there your daughter is, curled up on her father's chest, sleeping as soundly as can be.

"Are you serious?" you ask, keeping your voice quiet. The question isn't reprimanding. It only conveys how you're still struggling to process the adorable sight in front of you. "She just fell asleep like that?"

Hyojin nods affirmative, a soft smile on his face.

"You didn't want to put her in her crib?"

"You know how clingy she is… Look how happy she is like this," Hyojin reasons. You both know this will only be a rare indulgence. On a regular day, he would be far too busy to let her stay like this. But your heart does warm at the sight. It's adorable.

"That used to be my spot," you note, your face dawning with the realization of your sudden competition. Hyojin laughs and leans in for a quick kiss. You take it as a sign of defeat. You can't beat your daughter when it comes to clinginess, and your husband seems to have a new favourite.

He hummed in agreement, which you barely considered as an answer, but he was too caught up in his game to focus on a word that just left your lips. 

You pouted from the doorway, while at the same time also finding his upright posture at the end of the bed a little funny. To top it all off he had such a blank stare that you couldn’t decipher the difference between uninterest and concentration despite knowing the answer. 

“Hyojin,” 

Still he didn’t look, but you could tell he heard you as his shoulders visibly tensed. 

“Yeah, I’m almost done. That looks good, you should get it. The colors nice, mhm,” 

Your boyfriend was saying anything in response as he concentrated on dodging the green shell bouncing off the walls while also weaving to stay in his second place position. 

And usually you would’ve—and could’ve—waited until the round was over, except you weren’t feeling particularly patient with his antics at that exact moment, crawling up behind him and wrapping your arms loosely around his upper body. 

The phone in your hand laid down by the controller, whatever was on your screen was still visible for him to take a look at at any given time, though he didn’t notice, continuing to drive the animation… and you crazy. 

Usually Hyojin never ignored you, never even dared not answer a simple question of yours. He was competitive, you knew that, so, it must've been serious if he couldn’t even avert his eyes for two seconds, or hit pause to agree or disagree with you. 

What was this, the world championship? 

You laughed softly against his shoulder, pressing a kiss to it through his T-shirt. You turned the phone off, discarding it next to you, resting your cheek almost in the crook, but still able to watch the little cars zoom across the television. 

He let out a dissatisfied groan as he fell down another place, still not budging.

“Is that more important than me?” You joked, resting your hands atop his for a couple seconds, feeling the way they contracted and moved before he sped across the finish line. 

“No, never,” He finally replied, gently resting his head against yours, “But I’m blaming third place on you.” 

You lifted away, mocking offense at his statement because he had already fallen to third (because he ran into someone, spinning out) before you debated taking the joysticks into your own hands; opting to pretend-play over his instead. 

Hyojin turned to face you before you said, “Sounds like a skill issue.” making him scoff. 

Shrugging, he mumbled, “S-skill issue? As if,” 

You took his face into your hands, stating, “Baby,” and pressing an apologetic kiss to his lips during the pause. “You’re always number one in my heart.”

“I could beat you at this game any day,” He remarked. And, though you couldn’t relate to his eagerness, your competitive boyfriend he’d always be—despite it still being just a game at the end of the day.
