You want to. You really do. But there's a little list in your head of things you should do first. Now that you have another person to think about besides you and Hyojin, your priorities have shifted. You need to put groceries away, make sure Daeun got put down for her nap comfortably, and then tackle the laundry you've been putting off doing.

Daeun isn't a difficult baby, but she is a clingy one with both her parents. You've gotten used to getting things done while holding her. Dishes, cleaning, organizing, even work. It's easier to do tasks with a happy but clingy baby than a fussy one in a different room. Nap times are the rare moments you can be productive without an extra eight kilos in your arms.

Naps have become more difficult in the last few weeks. She was such an easy newborn, sleeping whenever and wherever, that you took it for granted. It takes a while to get her down now. She's energetic and learning fast at eight months. Whether it's babbled responses to anything Hyojin or you say or trying to grab onto nearby objects, she's started to make her presence much louder in the house, and naps are often rejected.

Hyojin thinks she's growing up too fast, as he told you one afternoon after finally getting her to sleep. She's already started sounding out letters and trying her best to imitate gestures. You know that once she learns more sounds she will be very talkative. While you are looking forward to it, you also wish you could pause time. You want to hold onto these precious moments while she is still small.

You make quick work of putting ingredients away, wanting to get to the couch next to your husband as soon as possible. When you check the laundry basket for the dirty clothes, you find it empty. A glance into the laundry room confirms what you think. Hyojin already put it on. That's one less thing to do. Your last task is the baby monitor. You find it turned off. Turning it on only reveals an empty crib and complete silence from the nursery.

"Hyojin?" you call out in confusion. "Did you not put Daeun down for her nap? Is Seungjun babysitting again?"

Your husband shakes his head, a finger held up to his lips to shush you. One pat to the empty cushion next to him is all you need to cross the room and sit.

"She's down for her nap," he whispers. You look at him like he's crazy because Daeun was definitely not in her crib when you checked.

He chuckles softly at your expression before pushing the blanket down a little and unzipping his hoodie halfway. And there your daughter is, curled up on her father's chest, sleeping as soundly as can be.

"Are you serious?" you ask, keeping your voice quiet. The question isn't reprimanding. It only conveys how you're still struggling to process the adorable sight in front of you. "She just fell asleep like that?"

Hyojin nods affirmative, a soft smile on his face.

"You didn't want to put her in her crib?"

"You know how clingy she is… Look how happy she is like this," Hyojin reasons. You both know this will only be a rare indulgence. On a regular day, he would be far too busy to let her stay like this. But your heart does warm at the sight. It's adorable.

"That used to be my spot," you note, your face dawning with the realization of your sudden competition. Hyojin laughs and leans in for a quick kiss. You take it as a sign of defeat. You can't beat your daughter when it comes to clinginess, and your husband seems to have a new favourite.
