Did anyone else almost scream when Hylla was introduced at C.Câs Spa in season 2, episode 5. That got me so excited. I love all the Easter eggs in the series to other books, it makes me happy and makes it seem like the people creating this show do love and know the source material.

Hello everyone! This week's @flashfictionfridayofficial is dedicated to the one and only @demigod-shenanigans who both suggested the pairing of Reyna & Hylla and also compiled enough canon Hylla information for me to have ANY idea who this woman is. Trust me, this morning she was a stranger.

Ao3: A Ring No Longer Tied With String
Hylla liked the present. It was loud and insistent and refused to be ignored. It was difficult and sometimes painful, but at least it was honest. It didnât lurk in shadows like the future, nor did it bare its stomach in invitation only to bite in punishment like the past. Hylla lived in the present, armed to the teeth and ready to face the future while she stubbornly refused the past any attention. Unfortunately, the past was once the present, and sometimes it remembered its demand to be recognized.Â
Hyllaâs past came to her in chains, wearing the face of a boy whoâd once ruined her life and carrying the mark of a sister she often pretended to forget.Â
Hylla was in her office alone now. Sheâd won the challenge, defended her throne, and promptly dismissed everyone from her sight so that she could sit in silence with a name too big for any room. Reyna. The name didnât shout, Reyna herself didnât shout. It sat with a sort of still, serious composure in the back of her mind, not asking for attention, but unwilling to be moved. Hylla was wearing the ring sheâd taken from Percy Jacksonâs neck, spinning it around her thumb without quite meaning to. She knew why she was doing it, but she refused to recognize it.
Unbidden, the ringâs history swam to the front of her mind. Goddesses didnât frequent Circeâs Island, and war goddesses least of all, but Bellona had come one day. Whether it was for strategy or magic or simply a trip to the spa, Hylla never knew, but her mother had stood before her, ten feet tall and glowing. She didnât smile, but she nodded at Hylla and slipped a ring off her pinky and into Hyllaâs cupped hands. Hylla had taken it with quiet thanks and reverence and shown it to Reyna that night in their dorm and told her about the encounter. Reyna had stared at it, eyes wide and shining in wonder, and in an instant, Hylla knew what to do. She took the ring out of her palm and put it on Reynaâs thumb. It didnât quite fit, but Hylla knew they could make it tighter later with string.Â
âAre you sure?â Reyna had asked, cradling her hand to her chest like she was worried Hylla might take it.
Hylla had reached out and pulled her forward until their foreheads touched. âIâve never been more sure of anything. Take care of it, hermana.â
Now that same ring was in Hyllaâs hands again after being delivered by the very demigod who had destroyed Circeâs Island. The thought made her sick, but at the same time, she recognized the severity. Reyna had guarded that ring with her life for years, diving off the side of a pirate ship after it on one occasion. If sheâd been willing to part with it, just to send a message, Hylla knew exactly what that message was. Her sister needed her, and the demigod she sent should be trusted, whether Hylla liked it or not.
So, against her better judgement, Hylla led her warriors south. The Amazons came to the aid of Camp Jupiter, and for the first time in years, Hylla fought at her sisterâs side, the two of them falling into rhythm just as easily as they had on Blackbeardâs ship when theyâd first learned what their heritage meant. She realized with dawning horror, that the past had its teeth in her and it wasnât going to let go any time soon.
After the battle, Hylla found herself walking the streets of New Rome with Reyna at her side. Reyna was just as quiet, just as watchful as the little girl Hylla had all but raised, but she was different now. She held her chin up with confidence, but her shoulders were tense with the weight of her duty and her eyes were hollowed with grief. Her hand didnât flash with silver. Hylla couldnât fix everything, but she could fix that. Without a word, she took Reynaâs hand and slipped the ring onto her thumb. It fit her now, no string required, and the sight made Hyllaâs heart clench.
âI had assumed youâd kept it when Percy came back without it,â Reyna said quietly. She kept her hand in Hyllaâs hold and searched her face. âAre you sure?â
Hylla smiled at Reyna. Her darling sister who she loved so much. The brave Praetor of New Rome who had her eyes set on the future and never wavered. She brought their foreheads together. âIâve never been more sure of anything.â
Reyna didnât cry, not exactly. She squeezed her eyes shut and took several deep, measured breaths. âThank you.â
Hylla pressed her lips to Reynaâs forehead in a brief moment of affection that neither of them would have allowed with an audience. âTake care of yourself, hermana.â
Hylla and the Amazons left the next day. New Rome wasnât their home, and it was steadily marching towards a future that didnât include them. That was okay. There was one RamĂrez-Arellano leading them into the shadows. The other turned her sights towards the past. Seeing Reyna come into her own had sparked a thought in Hyllaâs mind, one that had refused to leave it, just as Reynaâs name had days before. Perhaps, if she reached for it before it could bare its teeth, it wouldnât bite. She was determined to find out. Her first stop was a quiet little town in Puerto Rico full of ghosts she was choosing to remember.Â
When P!Percy shows up on Circe's island O!Annabeth is the one who is on edge, they've been here before. For some reason O!Annabeth recognizes the girl who leads her away to change, she can't tell from where but somehow, this person is familiar.
Circe guides Percy over to the mirror, Percy sees into the past, dressed as an Itican queen, Percy sees into the present a boy dressed like a confident warrior.
As they escape Circe's island, P!Percy makes eye contact with two people, calling out for them is Penelope's instincts, curtsying back is their's. Her handmaidens have returned.
I think it would be really cool to have Reyna and Hylla being some of Penelope's former handmaidens, espically because they also served as Circe's handmaidens while on the island. Originally I was going to going to make Reyna one of Penelope's sisters but I wanted to include Hylla in this and it felt weird if Jason would make out with his aunt (this is also why I'm not going with the obvious idea of Piper being Helen, I don't personally ship Jiper but it still felt weird.)
Or maybe Hylla was one of Penelopes handmaidens and Reyna was her younger sister who grew up Telemachus.
Also it would really complicate P!Percy's relationship with the Romans and the Amazons, considering she used to be the queen of their preator and queen, (respectively).
This might even be their first realization that there are other people out there who were reincarnated and that itself could cause drama.
I still think even with this they would most likely be seperated due to the fates trying to keep the Romans and the Greeks seperate until time is right.
Also it would make Jason and Reyna's relatoinship at CJ much more complicated because (I think) Reyna becomes preator before Jason does so she outranks the person whose mother she once served.
I don't know I just want Penelope!Percy and Circe to sit down and have tea, I feel like after having to put of with all Odysseus's nonsense they deserve it. + in Epic Circe wasn't a bad, bad guy so it could work....
This and all other Percabthe Reincarnation Au content I post is co-brainstorm with @wrensflight
I just want Reynaâs dogs to have more screen time. Like where did they come from?? Did she make them with magic? Did she build it with her own hands? Did she find them somewhere??

Ok so remembering the pjo amazons really has got me thinking about them and their whole operation again, like I know when son of neptune was written amazon, while very notable, wasn't the nightmare megacorp its primarily known as today so obviously Rick wasn't giving it that much thought, but like, how the fuck does amazon the corporation work in the pjoverse? does jeff bezos even exist? is he a mist construct? is he a puppet? like in the literal sense? like every time he's in an interview or making an announcement there has to be a desk of podium in front of him because right behind that is Hylla and some other amazon operating him like he's the swedish chef from the muppets? and nobody notices because of the mist? to further the Henson connection, is he some kind of creature shop-esque animatronic? Is he remote controlled by Hylla like an rc car? These are the real questions I now have and I'm almost dead certain that they will never be answered
