Hurricane Dorian was the most intense tropical cyclone on record to strike the Bahamas, and is regarded as the worst natural disaster in the country's history. Dorian struck the Abaco Islands on September 1 with maximum sustained winds of 185 mph (295 km/h). Elaine came into the Emergency Operations Centre one morning looking for help gutting and taking all her wet and soggy furniture out of her destroyed home. We spent a few hours clearing Elaine's home when we were joined by the wonderful Jamaican Defence Force.
