Hunting in the Middle Ages was not only a pastime but also brought significant economic profit to the king and the nobility who owned the forests. The noble hunters also acted as forest managers, taking care of the game as well as maintaining and protecting the forest. It was forbidden to hunt deer, fallow deer, roebucks, wild boars, and indeed any other game in the forests. Violating this prohibition was punishable by a high fine, or in the case of repeated offenses, even physical punishment. The same applied to unauthorized wood gathering and logging. Many poachers came from poorer social classes and had little to lose, so physical confrontations with the gamekeepers who caught them in the act were not uncommon.

TRIVIA

— Medieval huntsmen were serving both as gamekeepers and foresters mostly in the name of the king (in England, for example, the nobility only received the right to appoint their own gamekeepers with the Game Act of 1671). They were thus feared both by commoners for their authority in enforcing forest law, searching property, confiscating illicit goods and dragging poachers before the court, while noblemen who owned their own patch of land often loathed the idea of a royal officer on their estate who could claim fees and game for the monarch – and not always forthe monarch. Complaints were numerous that foresters took more rent for the usage of the woods than required, charged illegal tolls or unlawfully seized crops, timber or hare skin from peasants for their own gain. Yet not all foresters were only interested in their own profits. The family of Rosenberg in the Český Krumlov region were such passionate hunters that in an 1898 record of the Krumlov history they are described as “devoted […] to the goddess of hunting, and if they were not occupied by wars and feuds, they were keen to pick up a bugle-horn and a spear”. By 1553, the Rosenbergs owned a unique map showing all marten paths in their lands, they founded their own deer parks and hatcheries to breed more game, and even gathered wild bears from neighbouring areas to place them in their own lands. As early as at the end of the 17th century – a few decades after the Rosenberg's reign ended – the first complaints were voiced about a loss of species in Český Krumlov due to excessive hunting. In 1719, a gamekeeper of the estate writes: “The main hindrance for deer breeding is excessive hunting and a lack of the right habitat” – quickly leading to stricter regulations on forest and hunting law under the then ruler of the Krumlov estate, Adam Franz zu Schwarzenberg.

Love American dragon. I still rewatch some of its episodes when I want to feel nostalgic and not get too much cringe. I rewatched it completely this summer, but I only got around to drawing something now

The show showed criminally little of Huntsman and his interactions with Rose😤 We don't even know Huntsman's real name, so I decided his name must be Khan.
