TODAY'S FACT IS

Did you know that the Huhu Beetle (Prionoplus reticularis) is a large beetle found only in New Zealand? The larvae of this beetle have long been consumed by the Māori, usually at the last stage of development before pupating. Unlike many beetles (and more akin to silk moths) the adult Huhu does not feed, relying only on the energy conserved by its larva. Despite not feeding, it still has wicked mandibles that will bite as soon as something touches them.
